Customer wants this tree removed, no big deal, neighbor ( who was not asked for an oponion, and doesn't know the new home owners, insists if I cut half the tree down ( whats touching/ leaning on house ), that it will be perfectly fine, I laughed, but wondered what you fine people think. I tried to explain to the neighbor that cutting the 2 largest sections of the trunk towards the house would kill the tree, not to mention it would look stupid. Bottom line is not up to her, but this is also a great example of letting you tree go, lol

Cut the whole tree down. It will look stupid lopsided like that. They should want it down so that the shingles can breath and damp areas don't build up on the side of the house.

Light/moderate reduction of endweight is all the tree needs. Put down the chainsaw and pick up a polesaw and learn how to use it if you want to do tree care.

yes shingles need air but this can be done by pruning quite easily.

Yea introduce that tree to the chipper , its too close and a dirty tree .. They need to be a part of the yard where the birds can eat the fruit and not make a mess ...Plus they stain roofs something fierce..

How about severe cut back and then continued maintenance so the tree doesn't get out of hand again. To lose a mature fruit tree like that is too bad. I'd try to keep it alive if I had it.

I've got a whole sack full of green apples in the shop fridge that I flailed off a tree last week. I have been known to stand out in the yard with a salt shaker and eat a half dozen of them at a time. :D
