As embarrassing as it is to say ...since I put in the oil burner 15 years ago .. I don't know how it works .. but I have two switches feeding the relay box then the burner.. one seems to control the pumps and one the burner. Under the cover on my burner itself is a dial just like on the aqua stat on my OWB .. just turned that down also. In my system I have regular 50 gallon hot water tank that instead of a gas burner or electric coil there is one of the oil burner zones feeding it. It has its own aqua stat set at 110 degrees .. turns on that pump when the water in the tank drops below that and turns the pump off at 120. hope that made sense

I think thats the way mine is set up as far as the controls. My hotwater system is the same as yours.

I have finnished my install! The thing is working great!

I ended up hooking the HX up to the hot water loop and jumpering the aquastat for the pump so it runs 24/7. That worked great and was very easy. Eventually I want to hook up some sort of switch to do it without disconnecting any wires.

I also had to unhook the power to the oil burner to keep it from turning on. As soon as my thermostat called for heat the zone valves would open and the burner would fire up. Again I would like to hook up a switch to turn the boiler off. Alternatively I was thinking of using a aquastat hooked into my OWB loop that would tell the furnace to stay off.

Thanks for all the help and ideas!

So far I am pleased with the Portage and Main however I did notice some creosote running/dripping out of the ash pan door and secondary heat exchanger door. I'll let you guys know how I make out solving that problem:clap: :)

Glad you got it working.....winter will be here soon!

Has the hot water temp out of your faucets increased to a dangerous level?

Yeah pretty much, :jawdrop: . Approximatly 160 degrees F. I have warned my fiancee multiply times....I hope she always rememebers. I am going to install a mixing valve to keep people from burning themselves.
