OK, i think I read every thread about painting saws more then once. As well as all the powder coating systems thread.

I looked at the HF systems, i'm goign there this weekend so ill check them out in person.
I like the Eastwood system- http://www.eastwood.com/hotcoat-powder-coating/powder-coat-guns/hotcoat-deluxe-powder-coat-kit.html
I am close to pulling the trigger but i'm goign to look at he HF one first.

How would i match the Stihl Grey? or do i just use white.

Or do i stick with the regular paint or try the ace implement paint. If i go automotive paint it will get expensive and probably end up costing as much if not more then the powder coating system. I'm goign to pick up an old over for free, just have to make sure its the correct amp that my 220 has.

Also sandblasting, i have a hand held gun that may work OK for case's but i'm looking at pressurized system, then I could always make a homemade cabinet for it.
maybe this one form sears- http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00988615000P?keyword=sand+blaster

I have the deluxe eastwood kit, I just don't have an oven yet so I haven't used it yet.(wanna use a regular one but I only have 3 phase 220 at the shop, so I need a large toaster oven) Eastwood will send you a color chip chrt and there is a color similar to stihl grey. Also, from what I've read, powders can be blended, just like paints. As far as sandblasting goes, ALL PAINT MUST BE COMPLETELY REMOVED OR IT WON'T ALLOW THE POWDER TO STICK OR WILL MELT AND WASH AWAY THE POWDER WHILE YOU'RE BAKING.

on my way to HF, ill see what they have. If the system looks OK I might buy it might be wise to get the better quality one. Ill at leats look at there sandblasting options.

i made a sandblast cabinet out of an old dishwasher,, just cut a hole in teh top for a window,, and in teh side for a sleeve to hold teh gun,, left the bottom shelf in it to hold the parts, and it slides out easy... with the waterproof gaskets around teh door, it holds the mess inside ....

Hey Nik!

How long have you had your set without using it? I'm now waiting for an exclusive report since quite some time. I'm waiting to hear complaints from home for curing in the oven!

PLEASE DON'T DISSAPOINT US!

Few pointers..............

Prep is everything.

Get the iron phosphate wash for pretreatment.

Don't glass bead blast.

Bake your part at about 20% higher then cure temp for about 20 min.s before shooting.Helps get any oils out of the metal to prevent outgassing.

Get a handheld laser type temp gun.Your cure time starts when the part is at temp not the oven.

Cool down your parts slowly.

Oh yeah did I say prep is everything?

Why no bead blast? how do i get the paint off?
Ill just follow the Eastwood directions, i'm sure they figured everything out already. They have prep stuff to spray to get rid of all oil ect...

The HF coater looked ok but after i get all the stuff i need it will be the same as eastwood, tape plugs ec..

What color white would match stihl the best? They have
appliance white, off white and gloss white.
comes with black, and 2 other colors, would a clear coat be a good idea, would it be stronger?

do you cure the first coat then do the clear or do both then cure?

I don't bead blast I prefer to use paint stripper then etch prime it, the only paint I use is 2 pack acrylic urethane enamel. It's fuel resistant with a high gloss finish.
If you want you paint job to last avoid using paint that comes in a spray can,
it's rubbish.

I use crushed glass to remove paint as it's the prefered media, why would you say not to use glass scooter, I'm all ears.?

 I want to know also. Ive used glass bead for lots of removal just have to make sure you clean it well. Ive heard of guys glassbeading intakes, not getting all the media out and running on an engine and ruining it.

After glass bead blasting what do i clean the case with? acid, degrease, water?

I'm not sure why scooter says no glass bead.
But i bead blast every part in my restorations.
Blow off with compressed air and clean with a
good body wash. Prime and paint as soon as
possible to prevent oxidizing. The biggest pain in
bead blasting is cleaning all the treaded screw
holes. Must blow them out really well so the screws
will go in. Sometimes i have to run a tap in the holes
to clean them. i also heat the parts to be painted with
a heat gun to remove any moisture that maybe on them
prior to paint. Painting warm metal is always better than
cold metal.
If you want to look into a blast cabinet, go to
www.tptools.com they have lots of cabinets and many
types of media for all types of blasting.
