Mama, that s50 looks almost new. My s50 was my firewood saw for 15 years and it was a good one. It is almost 30 years old now but still cranks and runs. With no av or chainbrake, it doen't get used much.

For anyone who DOESN'T know, this is a Parter 540 painted red and on steroids

Duane

I'm not sure what your meaning by that. Its not really that at all. The 590 is a 45mm saw and 51cc. The 540 is 46mm and 53cc. The 540 is closer to your PP325 which is the same as a Partner 5500.....

Do you have a 540?

The 3 cube Partner crowd 500, 490 (added lower brace), 590 Heated Handles, Poulan Pro 325

The rest in work in progress

Nice bunch there with the 325 being the crown jewel.

Guess I shoulda explained it more. Mainly about the closed port thing and handle bar, and lower brace.

With that: anyone know how the mounting of the lower brace is on a 540 or 5500, Partner 5000's and PP325's use the "c" mount for the lower brace. My 590 is "Round" mount just like NON braced 500, 490 saws, but has the lower brace? Hope people can figure out what I'm asking?

And No I don't have a 540, but am always hunting for one, why I'm not quite sure! Must be the CAD issue,

Well the closed port thing is even more of a reason not to compare it to the open port 540!

I never paid much attentiont to the lower mounts but found out some time ago that there differnent on the later ones.

Good luck on the 540 search, as far as I know they were never in the US market. I might have the only one here. :hmm3grin2orange:

If not, one of very few anyway.

New Feebay S50

Newest feebay addition. a Partner S50, $55 to the door. needed carb kit fuel line, but wasn't rotten or gummed up just dried out, hard as a rock. MINT CONDITION bore!! piston, every machine mark with out even a minor wear mark. Has brand new coil on it too, wonder what was up there?
I believe it still wears its OEM hard nose bar and chain too.
Has a slight bend in the handle that will fixed right quick.
Funny thing is it came OEM with the "HOLLOW" high flow muffler, with no baffles or tubes inside. only seen a couple!!! and never on P70 or 7000+ where they should be.

Just like to spread Partner pictures around.

S50

Neither have I. I'm betting fankensaw here, not that its a bad thing.

Its No frankensaw! They sold lots of them this way. I have over three of these, this is the nicest one by far. They were just stripped down CHEAP Partners based on the R16 but a different rear (plastic) handle and a flat top piston instead of Domed. (Partner stated slightly Detuned in there add)
Funny thing is they are smooth running and the vibrations are almost none, I find myself using a S50 alot do to the FEEL of them. And the weight. 15 pounds with 20" Power match B/C. very light!!!! same as a Ms260 but more power.

I can't get the link to work from Mike Acres Sight (sorry, not to good with links) but there's a nice Picture of the S50 there too, and go back one page "Mama" has one pictured too, but its a little newer by the top cover.

my 490 has a round handle like the Partner 5000 had, no brace.
Partner 5000 (early one), 540 and 5000 Plus have the C shaped one. This is what the brace looks like where it's mounted on the front handle:

And that's why this brace would only fit the C shaped handles without modifications. The 490 has the same screw on the handlebar likethe 5000 have for mounting the brace, but on the 490 it just sticks out. The 490 by the way looks great with the brace !

I've got a 540 and want a PP 325 closed port...:hmm3grin2orange:

Of course you want a PP325. Were there many Poulan Pros imported to Germany? Might be a hard one to find but you could maybe find a Partner 5500 easier since they seemed to be more europen to begin with? I have both the 5500 and the 325 and there actually the same saw. The type I 325 did not come with the chainbrake though.

only the toxic green cheap small Poulans were sold here, the poulan micro years ago (aalso sold as Dolmar 101 i think) and the later plastic fantastic like 2250 and so far. No pro saws ;-)
Partner saws where aa waay behind Dolmar and Stihl here in western Germany, also in the 50cc range where i would consider the 5000 series the best saw till the 346 and Dolmar 5105 came out, Dolmar 112-115 and Stihl 026 where extremely successful. Partner Saws where selling strong in some regions, where they had dealer support. Though a fair amount of Jonsered 490 were sold in Austria, small and strong swedish saws are the best if you have to clim high mountains with a saw...mine was sold in Austria, still has a dealer sticker on it.
But the really interesting thing is; Partner saws where the official Saws in the GDR/ eastern Germany. You may know that they had planned economy, and so the government decided which saws where used, every couple of years they bought a load of Partner saws, first R series saws (often with braker points specially sold to the GDR since they could be fixed easier with own parts), then P70/7000, some hundred P100, many early 5000, some years later 5000 Plus (about 1986, mine was one of them) and 7000Plus and the last saws where 5500 in the late 80's, but not many, since reunion came in 1990 and forests became private again. Sometimes 5500 can be found, and i know someone who would sell me a 5500, but it needs a new piston...and that is really rare...

S-65

I have a chance to pick up a real clean S-65 at my local husky dealer he has for sale. All the partners I have are in the 50-55 cc range. I would think the 65 would have alot more punch. How do you guys like your S-65.

Whole different animal compared to 50-55cc stuff, I will say buy it, if you don't like it sell it too me!!! I like the 65cc Partners, some more than others. They changed from closed to open port at some time but they still run great. Nothing bad to say really, there good power and rpms in the 12,000-13,500 range lots of low end torque. I can't hardly tell the difference between P70's and S65's in most cases.
IMO you should not buy it and tell me how to find it!!!

Thanks Duane for the info, I'm going to pick it up next week. I've always wanted a S-65 now is my chance. He wants 175.00 for it and its real close to the shape of my nice S-50 I picked up awhile back.

Thats the high side but it is a 65cc saw for that so I'd buy it too. They changed a few things around over the years but there all good, later models had the one peice ignition without BLACK box module ( easy parts wise) but any are good. My only real complaint is they take a real good grip on the starter handle when starting and they really throw the oil out being non adjustable. 24" bar helps with the over oiling!
Its hard to find a non abused S65 because they were great saws and were used for a lifetime!!!

Enjoy

I thought I would drop by and let everyone know that I found a current production piston that is a direct swap into the Pioneer/Partner 500 open port cylinder. There was a recent thread about this but I did not yet have this piston in hand to do the measurements on it. The piston from the Husqvarna 350, it`s a full skirt 44mm piston I had been searching for, the one I have here will fit into the 500 with no modifications but I would still encourage everyone to check for clearance between the piston crown and the cylinder head, " squish".

Hi Jerry. Yes, the 44mm Husky 350 is exactly the same. I've mic'd 2 of them now in the past year and everything measures out the same.
Only if we can find a "drop in replacement" for the 5000 closed port. The 246 works great, but you have to widen the bosses a little, not a big deal, but a drop in one would be nice.
What I'd really like to find is a windowed 45mm Jred 590 piston. I have a complete clean 590, and another needing a piston.
I haven't been able to come up with anything for a windowed 590 piston.

Hmmm, I just happen to have a new 590 here and was planning to swap it all over to one of my 5000+ saws, would it be a direct swap? The 590 was dropped before it had the first tank ran through it so I hoped it could be used on a 5000+ chassis.
