I have a P50 on the bench that has the bar studs stripped on the outside.

The IPL that I have shows what looks like some kind of plug on the case end of these studs. Looking through the fuel tank, the front "boss" can be seen, but offers me no clue as to how to remove them. Most of the studs that I have seen are either threaded in to the case or are a square headed bolt pushed out from inside the oil tank. On the outside there is no evidence of threads next to the case.

Anybody familiar with removing these studs?

Pioneer P51 is about the same, mine does what it needs to do. Pull a 32" bar with Oregon 27A wrapped around it when the needs arises. Lately big trees are scarce on the place, hmmm I wonder what caused that?

I am not sure this is the saw you mean, Larry....

The P50 / P51 is a saw built for comfort and is really not too bad.
Starter is not very well thought thru, but all in all a brilliant design that made the saw run almost vibration free. The chain breake system is ingenius as are the engin/body design. This model did not make it thru the test years and was put to sleep 1977. One year production on the P50 and the same with P51.

Here is the P50.

Pioneer not Partner.

Thank You Magnus,

I had to go look at the saw again. It is not a Partner, but a Pioneer. I had them confused. Doesn't take much sometimes.

I resurrected a nice Homelite 650 today. Needed the intake boot and two clutch shoes. Looks good and runs nice.:)

I would recommend leaving the studs in as they are a lot of work to change. They can be rethreaded in place using a hex drive rethreader and change them down one size. If they are standard size a metric threader will usually fit in when a standard size thread is stripped out. Just the way I would go about it as it is too much work to split the case and press those studs out. Pioneerguy600
