Glad to see Gary Richards get a piece of the shows action, his efforts kept that show going for many years!
He sold me his 090 some years ago, great likeable guy, way to go Gary.
Jon

Gary and Art Martins efforts have also kept the show closed so guys like you can't even compete there. Open Up the show, or is he afraid of more competion? Yeah, way to go Gary.

I didn't read the full biography, but I hadn't ever heard that Paul moved out west.

About the show; if it's a local show, why should they open it to outsiders if'n they don't want to?

It’s too bad that Tommy’s "toady" can’t get his facts straight and submits this bogus information.

I have not competed in any logging shows for 21 years because of my health problems. I have not been affiliated with the Paul Bunyan Association in any shape or form since the early 1980’s. I moved out of the area in 1987 and live about 200 miles away. I rarely even go to Fort Bragg because of the long drive.

I don’t really care if they decide to open up the show or keep it closed for Mendocino County residents or whatever. I certainly was for opening the show to everybody when I was in my prime and was banned from the show because I left Fort Bragg to become a Campbell Firefighter. I made countless trips back to Fort Bragg to try to open up the show when I was president of the California Lumberjacks Association, which had some 80 members, but had no success in that effort.

When I returned to Fort Bragg, after having to retire due to ill health, I was a member of the Paul Bunyan Association. I tried to open the show to everyone, but was met with strong opposition from other members. They wanted to keep the show local so that the winnings would stay in town and help the local economy. Their rationale was that when the outsiders came in and won, they didn’t spend their winnings locally.

I was part of the audience at this year’s logging show. I heard people around me talking about how great it was to have a local show so that they could cheer for the local boys. The only negative comments I heard were that there weren’t many contestants other than the Fales’.

As for Gary Richards, he has not competed since 1998 and it came as a surprise to him when he heard it was going back to the original tradition of Mendocino Country residents only. I don’t blame Gary for entering this year. Who would turn down a chance at winning a part of the $10,000 purse? He won $1,875—not bad for a day’s work for a retired railroad man. Great job Gary!!!!!!!

It’s too bad when banned members use different pseudonyms to try to fool members of Arborist site.

What's bogus about saying the show is a closed show Art! It is a closed show! But, if you don't care one way or the other, like you say, then lets get them to open up the show. Then there will be plenty of contestants, and Art, did you forget to tell the young man, and over-all winner, Andy Fales, Great Job?

Tim, I was happy to see an old friend, do well at the show, how in the heck did that set you off? seems your attitude is much like another, we all KNOW.
I have spent time competing at that show, and don't recall hearing your name, Why?
You are right, about Andy deserving congrats, he and others young men ( like maybe you know George Harrisons' boys) are now steping up and filling the shoes of older competetors, I hope they have the respect for people helping them, that I have for Art.

BD knows a little too much for having supposedly having never been banned. Can you explain that BD? Funny cause you and joelamb show up and act just like two other repeat offenders.
People's memories are better than you think.

Congratulations to Gary and Art. It takes a lot of hard work and much skill to win. John

Lucky, Xander, et al;

Big Dutchman could easily have been brought up to speed on site history by reading old threads or talking to other members. Maybe he`s even related to someone else that we know.

Unfortunately it doesn`t take alot of digging to see the factions that have developed on this forum but then why should this forum be any different than our daily face to face interpersonal relationships? You like some people, don`t like others, and ignore the rest, maybe even the ones that you don`t like.

Hey lucky,

I didn't post in this thread, seem its your big mouth doing the over flowing here.

sawracr,

It didn't set me off. My comments were, "the show is closed and it elimimated you, being able the compete there". My attitude is like most competitors, Open Up the Show. That's what brings competion! Don't you want to compete at Fort Bragg anymore? As for not recognizing my name, do you know EVERY guy in logging sports? I don't think so, because most of the guys I know have never heard of you, or Art Martin. I use to compete, and I have a good scar on my ankle from a Hot Saw to prove it. I would compete again sometime if it works out. I competed in Willits one year, but couldn't at Fort Bragg because at that time, the show was closed to anyone but locals. Then the Fales got the show opened up, and the best competion in the world showed up. They kept a local's class, but there were only a couple of local competors that showed up. Gary won that class, and jumped in the open class, and got smoked! Now it's a closed show again, but there are still very few local competitors. Art doesn't live in the Mendicino area, but does get his equipment in the show by supplying Gary Richards with saws and chains. Anyone who advacates a closed show either has no confidence in their own abilities, is afraid of good honest competition, and/or wants to keep recognition and prize money in their own limited circle. I say "Good on" the Fales for opening it up for those few years, so the people of Fort Bragg had an opportunity to see what a real logging show could be. Obviously the people in the stands that Art quoted felt the same way, they'd like to see a broader field of contestants. Thanks for making my point Art.

Jacob J,

Haven't you relized yet that I'm Gypo Loggers "toady". He PM's me everyday and tells me what to say to you "culls". He doesn't want to get banned and he pays me to do his dirty work.

Funny. It seems I've heard that one before. Now was it rj selaf or ytrA nitraM. I forget, my bad.

Anyhoo, Russ I agree you have a point in ignoring those you may not like however these guys have been here for a month, have post counts in the 30's and 50's and done little except disrupt threads and insult other members. I think we've ignored enough. It's time for Darin to bring the fly swatter. John

Since becoming a member of this site I have read back over numerous threads and found Mr. Fales to be very informative and a person could learn alot from things he has talked about or shown. I don't think he, Mr. Cahoon or Mom should have been banned especially the mom who seemed so proud of what her young nephew was trying to accomplish, some people seemed genuinely interested. I think quite a few members posted things towards these people that were as bad as what you considered they were posting. From a outside perspective it looks like some are jealous, I don't know it is just my point of view.
