I curently go to school in cobleskill ny and working on a orn hort but i have taken a huge likeing in to arborculture and was wondering if any of you guys know anything about paul smiths school of forestry??? thanks i know my post is not in the right spot but.... this gets the most reading

My cousin went there for two years and took some forestry and fisheries? courses. He had only good things to say about it. He was on the lumberjack team there and they were very competitive. Its a small school with a low ratio of students to teachers. Very personalized. Not the best place to meet chicks though as they ratio of guys to girls was about 10:1 and because they offer a culinary arts course most of them were quite large.....

You may also want to look into CCFL in Canandaigua. It's a two-year school with courses in forestry & conservation. It also has an active lunberjack team, & I think a couple of state collegiate champions come from there. IIRR Dave Jewitt went to school there.

Yes, Paul Smiths also has culinary arts and hotel management. They run the Hotel Saranac in Saranac Lake as part of the curriculum.

I will put in a plug for MSU-Bottineau, in Bottineau ND. You get a geography lesson along with the forestry when you go to a new area for school. I came here for the Forestry program and have graduates you can talk to in Bedford Hills if you would like. Let me know. I also hear they have a great teacher, but that is just rumor.

mmmm Very interesting. Don't forget the 1# ranked (Or at least in 96 when I graduated) The New York State Ranger School in Wanakena, NY. Some ask why ranked that. Because you do two years of work in 10 months. Its a great school and they have a very new Lumberjack team (Blue Oxes). Then you can transfere on to SUNYESF at Syracuse. They also have a Lumberjack team. But if you are looking for the best trained team with the best coach... Go See Marty Dodge at CCFL. He has produced more Stihl Series Level competitors than anybody else I know of.
Either way you choose good luck.
