Yes, you will have to split the case. Will also need a new or different crank. They are relatively simple saws with an older design, very easy to work on.

Two different ignitions, one with a two pole coil and one with three. High jet in the carb is labeled for size. Believe the biggest was 1.16 but may be mistaken.

I sure miss mine.

If you end up not building it, holler at me as I'd like a 3120 parts saw to help keep mine going.

and... the mufflers are friggin expensive ($100+) and all your bar oil will come right out that hole where that missing muffler support bolt should be.

the throttle cables "may" be prone to fraying, I had to replace mine along with most of the rubber antivibe's

This saw is certainly closer to a runner than it is a parts saw, atleast in my opinion.

I can see why a muffler is so expensive, they are gigantic. Aftermarket piston and cylinder kits are dirt cheap though, rather amazing if you ask me

Chris

Chris, it looks like the crank/rod/bearings are sold as one assembly part # 503 14 20-1

PM me you're email and I"ll fwd the svc man (parts breakdown) to you

They are junk.. Junk I say :)

They will drag anything from 20-72"s

and when I'm tempted to run a 48" or larger bar, I just look at the prices and I'm not so tempted anymore lol...

I'm really jonesin' for a 60"er for mine, but don't want to pay the $350 for bar/chain...

ETA: saw a GB Ti bar on ebay a month or so ago that was 84" for them... :hmm3grin2orange:

I suck, eh?

Wait'll I tell you what I paid

Chris

I know whatchu paid ferit Chris.................but I ain't tellin' unless you make it public. I will state (for the purpose of heading off some wild immaginations) that he didn't pay dirt-cheap parts-saw money for it. He just got a good deal, even with the issues he has found after digging into it. The 3120 I ran years ago had a choke and not a primer. Must've been later production. Seemed like it was limited to 9600 RPM. Almost felt "electric". Pull the trigger more for increased power. Didn't "sound" like a mean-ass 7.5ci saw.................because of that big damn muffler. Extremely powerful and capable, but not 'exciting' to run like a Homelite 750 or McCulloch SP125. I'm sure that can change with a little work...

:msp_mad::msp_mad::msp_mad: Yep, You suck,

Sweet score and you got a big saw that i don't have.
All i know is the early 3120's had a primer and not a
choke but had more power than the later models.
The primer is now obsolite.

Lee

i likey, that's on my list for my 80's husky lineup. hmmm, i do have some extra yellow.:msp_wink:

Hey Chris,

I've got a funny feeling that you may be able to get something interesting in trade from one of these two gentlemen...:D

my wild imagination doesn't expect it to be a $50 saw, nor do I place prices on other folks gear. I offered to possibly buy it if he wanted to sell for a price we could agree on, not to run down the worth of the saw. I'd like to see it fixed and him keep it and even sent him some help... sheesh....

Easy tiger. No "sheesh" needed. Wasn't addressing you (or anyone else in specific). Just was thinking that fellows might get the wrong impression from reading a few posts here (including Chris' original post) and wanted to help my friend keep things from going sideways. He's a big boy, and can take care of himself. Just didn't want to see a friend's good thread go to poop...

Aaron, thanks for looking out man, #37 helped me out a bit, he sent me the manuals and IPLs. Nobody has tried to cheap me out on this thing, and I wouldn't take less than it was worth.

It's a shame about the design of the crank, Bailey's wants a pretty penny for them.

I certainly didn't pay $50 parts saw price for it, but it wad still more than a fair price.

Chris

You don't replace the connecting rod big end bearing, you replace the crank. Oh, don't even think about AM on the topend kit. The only one I've had experience with grenaded in very short order. It came to me that way. I replaced it with OEM and it's been surviving tree service abuse for a couple years now.

The top end on this saw is in good shape. Does anyone know a source to get a crank for one of these other than Baileys?

Chris

I keep the 42" .404 full comp on mine. Anything over that is hard to manage. The 72 puts a lot of stress on the mounts.

Wish I had the magnesium you craved :)

Good deal Chris. I am a 3120 fan powerfull, and rugged saw. Are you going to keep it, and run it. I sure would if I was you. Norm....................

No, I'm not keeping it.

Don't really need anything this powerful, could be better put to use when traded for green paper.

Reference the I Saw It...thread.

Chris

Well that is cool Chris, especialy if you don't have a use for it. Better to see a great saw go to use somewhere then sit where not needed. At least you were able to get it all worked out.
