Haha i wish i could say thats me!! The first few are some pics that i selected to test my abilities. I think the saw is an old homelite gear saw.

I should try and get a mug shot so you guys can see what i look like.

These trees are similar to the ones that i cut in Natural Bridge. Once i get mobile, i will try and het some stump shots.

rarely do i get into timber this size but every now and again there will be a deep hollow full.
Earlier this week i went to the back side of the govt job we are doin to to discover very big chesnut, red, white oaks but none of them are marked:cry:

Dang government and there willdlife trees...

u actually get to cut timber on government ground? wow!

There are some big poplars in the Smokies. There is one stand that was too difficult to build a rail road to, that has some true old growth.
I have seen several 4' and 5' dbh poplars in AL and GA. I climbed one near Ranburn, AL that was over 170' tall. It was a co-dominant twin. I trimmed it for right of way clearance in 92 or 93. I wonder if it still stands. If it does it could well be a state record.

Cutting for the government sucks!! Its just like having a bunch of extra bosses to worry about. And you can get ticketed for not doing stuff or doing stuff wrong...

Well, you need to read up on what you've agreed to do! The best logging outfits I work around, know what is in the contract. If they screw up, they are on the phone or in our office right away, telling what went wrong. One outfit last summer, even shut themselves down after they messed up and were in with a written explanation before I'd even gone out to find it. And this works a lot better than waiting for "the government" to discover it. If there's something in the contract that is impossible to do, it also needs to be brought to the attention of everybody. The thing about working in the PNW on federal land is that if you want to change something and do ground disturbance work outside of a unit, it is going to take months to get approved because it HAS TO HAVE SURVEYS FOR THE SENSITIVE PLANTS AND ANIMALS AND EVERYTHING ELSE done prior to disturbing the ground. The latter is the hardest thing that I have to explain. :deadhorse:
