Just a few pictures from a pruning job on Saturday. On that particular tree I was taking off dead limbs over the cable, phone, and service drop. 14 trees total to do have to climb all to about the 50' to 60' mark, hip thrust climbing on a blakes hitch. These trees are pretty tall and we had a cold front come through today so there was quite a bit of sway up there. And yes that is a ms 192t I am using, guess I'm not ready to step up to the big leagues and get a 200t yet but man do I want one. :greenchainsaw:

some will tell you to go srt but looking at your setup im thinking you should just double your line up and footlock up that to your tie in point. no need to hip thrust up that many trees. you'll be burnt out by lunch.

make a foot locking prussic and go up on that. nice cheap alternative to spendy ascenders. the length of the prussic should be about the length from your belly button to outstretched hands above your head.

just go up on that and if you trolined in high enough and got a sweet tip you can even just come back down on it if there isnt too much movement in the canopy going on.

stay safe.

Been trying a little footlock at home but it is still wipping me. I am sure it will just take time.

I'd rather have a 192 for pruning, the 200 is better for removals. I do more with my ibuki in smaller trees than the saw.

I also have an ibuki and I love that saw, wicked sharp and can remove some pretty sizable limbs. On some of the trickier big limbs I use the 192 for 90 to 95% and use my hand saw to finish the cut. Much more control that way I think. I use the 192 for removals also but have a picco mini bar and chain instead of the picco mini narrow.

Nice pics.

Footlocking sucked for me too. I've got an old fracture in my foot that footlocking tends to aggravate. I spent around a hundred for a foot and hand ascender. Works great on a doubled rope to get up there where you need to go. Works on a single line too. Beats the hell out of hip thrusting.

I have been looking at the petzl ascentree and pantin a little pricey but it seems I keep getting these jobs with really tall trees so I think they will pay for themselves. We have many monster cottonwood, oak, and maple trees here so I have to change something.

nice pics. i've never done that hip thrust thing. too much work involved. using my legs for ascending seems a better alternative. it looks like you already have enough gear to ascend using a technique a member posted a while back, whereby you basically ascend by pushing against the trunk with your legs and take up the slack with your climbing line. hopefully, someone has the link. i'd like to see the video again myself. k.i.s.s. and work safe.

o.d. it's been awhile, but, yes, i believe that was ekka's post. i haven't had the opportunity to use that technique yet, but it looked like a good way to scale a tree with a long straight trunk, similar to some mic687 was climbing in the pics.

you'd be one tired sob when done I think... me too from watching. If it wasn't for mechanical ascenders you would never find me up a tree.

hand acsender = 70
foot ascender =50

If anyone calls that pricey tell your boss I said you need a raise. If your boss thinks its pricey well... get another boss.

 You said it!

I was fairly tired by the finish of Saturday but mostly my hands hurt for a couple of days. The ascentree double rope ascender by petzl looks nice but its 200.00. I saw a video on the commercial climbing fourm of rope walking with two pantins that looks like a pretty sweet set up, double line with friction hitch and no retie at the tip just step out and go to work. I agree my current method is not the most efficent or the fastest and I will be changing it soon. What ascenders are you guys using and have you had ant issues with them.

I have a cmi foot ascender that I use along with my friction hitch. I like it cause I don't have much of anything extra once I reach my TIP. I can just unclip the foot ascender and go to work. It's a bit harder on my right leg than I'd like which is why Beranek's double foot ascender setup seriously caught my interest. BTW, this method works for best drt. I use it for srt as well but I'll take an extra wrap or two on my VT hitch for safety.

the "trunk walking" is very 'low energy'...much less than even foot locking - but maybe a tad slower. The way I see it is if I have more energy when I get up there, I can afford a few extra minutes to ascend then workquicker when I am there.
