I'm replacing the cutter wheel on a bandit 2100sp. First question, are there any aftermarket bearings that are compatible? the second question, is are there any tricks to removing the old ones? I'm not sure if they are pressed on on not, but they aren't budging. The set screws came right out and I can't see any obvious place where it is binding. Any suggestions?

I generally take the bearing to my local bearing and hydraulic guy and he figures out what available but I have found that often the dealer prices are pretty comparable. Sometime you can find what you need on ebay but but you always risk getting the wrong part.
I usually wind up cutting the old bearings off.

Thanks CalTree, I don't have any bearing places close to where I'm located. I'd just cut them off and replace them if I could figure out what to replace them with. Anyone know what the specs for the lower bearings on a Bandit 2100SP?

Be careful when shopping for pillow- bloc bearings..Take my advice , price isn't everthing you should look for..Every bearing mfg co. makes several lines of the same bearing.. If you should want to shop locally ,take your old bearing to a reputable bearing house and let them spec it out..They should be able to offer you several choices...and explain the differences.... Believe me ,cheap is not always better in the long run

Jimma,

I believe, I carry the bearings for your grinder. Are they a Rexnord/Linkbelt? If they are, I carry about 15 different sizes and I would only need to know the shaft diameter. The Rexnord/Linkbelt bearings can be purged of the dirty grease.

Hope this helps and you can call me at the number below.

[You want to make sure both pillow block bearings are the same height. A bearing company sold me the wrong height pillow block bearing and ruined a $ 1,00. hyd motor on my Mini-Chief stump grinder. Luckly they paid for the damage with a store credit. Still do business with Motion Industries. They seem to be able to get about any seals, bearing, and hydraulic parts.

I changed the pillow block bearings on my rayco over the winter, they were stuck to the shaft. I took each end, one at a time and set them in my wood furnace for a little while. Once they got hot, I was able to beat the bearings off with a small sledge; worked good for both sides; stunk up the basement though, the smoke coming off the grease and all.
