Pioneer 2071 carb woes

Resurrecting this old thread.. I have a 2071 and believe I could replace the primer bulb with a cheap generic one - however I don't like the primer setup, and I don't like the stock carb.

So today I will attempt to adapt the Tilly carb with choke from a p21 I have for parts. I'll let you guys know how it goes and will update with pics when I get at it

Cheers!

So I got these two saws picked apart, p21 on the left, 2071 on the right. The intake is identical on both of these saws, so the plastic mount for the Tillotson lined right up and fit in the 2071. From there, the issue I ran into is the hole for the Low adjustment screw. It's drilled an inch(ish) closer to the front end. I could easily drill a new hole and plug the old one with a screw, but this would mean going straight through the pioneer badge - I tried best to show that in the images attached.

As for the primer on the 2071 - someone who previously worked on this saw covered up the hole with an L-shaped piece of metal, screwed on at the side, and a generic primer bulb that appears to be j-b welded on there.
So I can easily remove the dry rotted primer and replace it, but again I am not a big fan of the primer set up.

Funny enough, the choke assembly from the Tilly fits right on that carb. I fueled it up and it works 😁

What do you all think is the best course of action?

A carb with a integral choke is a much simpler way to go on these saws that came with a primer, the generic primer bulbs will work but not look correct, a carb swapped in with a choke and then block off the hole where the primer mounts looks a bit better, either way the saw will work fine.

@pioneerguy600 So I went ahead and drilled into the frame for the Tilly's adjustment screw. Fit nicely. The throttle trigger was an easy change over as well.

Now the p21(left) has a vent hole in the top left, line runs out on the clutch side.
Will I need to drill a couple holes like this to accommodate the carb swap?

On the 2071 there is a tank vent located at the top of the recoil housing right under the very foremost bulkhead of the carb/airbox. Is that what you are asking about is the tank vent?

Thank you, that's exactly what I meant.
I'll check it out. I believe the tank vent is blocked because I hear a wheezing from the fuel cap. It stopped when I opened it up

The tank vent is made up of 4 pieces if I remember correctly, one of the rubber bits often gets soft and gooey and will block or severely limit the venting.
