I did well on the p40 with a full wrap . I went through it and found new fuel lines and carb kit already installed . Then I looked in the gas tank and there was a big bubble of water in the bottom. Drained and refilled . Started right up and after a tune (at 30degrees today ) its a winner! Looks like I could sell the handle and throw the saw out and make money. LOL. I might have to paint this one even tho I dont normally. You cant touch it without paint stuck on your hands.

Came across this 36 inch pioneer bar last week in my travels. Quick whipe down and it’s like new. Now to find a saw to put it on....

One of the p40 saws will start and run for a bit and die . Then wont restart . Compression low. The p/c look good to the eye . Rings must be stuck. If I go that far might as well do seals/bearings too.

My new 620. A little faded but very clean. I found it locally on Facebook. Gotta look for a longer bar for it. My first Pioneer but it's a very cool saw.

I dont know what your looking for but I run this on a 600A . It's a Power match number with chain was $60. I replaced the spur drum with this old stock from Oregon #16226 $9 on ebay . Came with .404 but just changed the rim 7 pin . He had more.


Edit , its also a skip chain.

Thanks for the info. It came with a 20" but I think it needs to be longer. I'm gonna run it a bit. Hope to grab an original Pioneer bar.

Got two saws yesterday for free (see: you suck-2018).
One is Pioneer 650, blows 140 psi, 16"hard nose 404 .058 as far as I can guess/measure, 56dl. I got it from USA/Mass/town policeman ( Canadian french heritage) (like me). He was the second owner from his uncle. Teeth on the chain were almost nonexistent.
Claims huge prior use, by uncle, as pulp wood cutter.

SN 297198 Any idea on the year?
Old 404 spur sprocket is tired. Is the clutch like the earlier 600 family= oregon 16226 as reported above.
Do most agree the K095 is a good substitute. I feel like a 20" or 24" in 3/8 is next.
Fired up on mix in spark plug hole.

That Oregon clutch will fit . I looked at the 650 I just picked up. A good place to look for MFG date is the casting number in the metering part of the carb. It will get you ballpark . The group has been finding alot of 600 series saw lately.

The Model 650 was produced 1964 thru 1977 Year. The first generation 600 series 600, 600A, 610 had a different design 3 shoe clutch that was replaced with a service clutch # 470789 wihich would have standard on your 650 model saw.

Thanks 2SS and beavers. Rethinking how much heavier I want to go with a long bar. I weigh all my saws and this one comes in at 21.3 lbs PHO. However the 650 is not that bad compared to my husky 2100CD at 19.34 lbs though the husky might be much stronger. My 95cc Homelite 707DA is 25.25 lbs PHO
There might have been E10 mix in this 650, the gas cap has black goo seals in it. I guess I know what I'm in for with the carb.
While cleaning the 650 up, I examined the green paint on the cover and notice it appears to have metallic green wrinkle paint down the center with smooth metallic green for the balance of the cover. The green cover is not that bad, but all the sun bleached yellow is a mess.

This is a pioneer 970, anyone know what this wire is for? Found it when I pulled apart the saw, broken. Saw has no spark.

Need to pull the flywheel, comes from the points and condenser.

Connects to the coil and the off on switch.

Ok awesome thanks, looks like it goes to the coil and jumps over to the switch. I’ll through a chunk of wire in there. Thanks again for your help.

Yes, the switch is just a grounding point that takes the electrical charge away from the coil, that shuts the saw off.

Been pretty quite over here lately. Got myself a big saw from another member this week. Posted it in the poulan thread, but it belongs here just as much(if not more ..) turns out it’s a boost port which is a nice surprise. Very dirty under all the covers, so it’ll have a good go threw. Also looking for a full wrap for it, if anyone has a lead on one.

So I connected the broken end coming from the points to the cool, nothing. Tried by passing the switch. Nothing. Any chance the points or condenser can just die and not work.
