Searched plastic repair on here. Found a few threads discussing plastic repair mostly with glues or epoxies.

What is the actual plastic material used for saws? Is it recycle number 2, High Density Polyethelene?

Is it the same stuff as roto molded Kayaks? We have fixed those by welding milk jug material in with a soldering gun.

On Stihl saws it`s PA66-GF which is a fiberglass reinforced plastic .

And the PA stands for polyamid resin.
I don't know of a way to repair polyamid... I think it's patch or replace.
Yes a Google search will tell one that, I have not found a good strong method to rejoin broken off parts, epoxies will fill in voids or cracks if it is not in a high stress area. Replacement of the part is the best method of repair but many will say they have welded certain damage with irons and pieces if donor material from parts.

Gerry, did you see the ( the chainsaw guy ) aka shop talk,
use a piece of screen melted into the crack, on the corners of the
2100s as a permanent fix?

Yes and I have used a similar fix on the rear handles of the Stihl 026 and 044 chainsaws several times as well as the lacing method, the JB works well if the crack is reinforced.

Most chainsaw plastic is polyamid, the fancy name for nylon. It is the same nylon used in carpet and textiles, and why Rit dye works well to dye parts black. GF stands for glass filled, used to reinforce it like straw in bricks.

PA66 is 6/6 nylon. PA6 is 6 nylon, similar but lower melting point. Both are thermoplastics, not thermosets. Parts are made via injection molding.

To repair a crack, drill a small hole at the end of it to prevent propagation. Clean with acetone and glue it with PL premium. It will be a permanent repair after 24 hours.
