I have only used it a few times. One time I couldn't get a good shot to set my line from the ground, so I spiked up to the bottom of the canopy and shot it up, other times it has been to set a rope in the end of a branch, when the TIP wasn't high enough to allow a long enough limb walk. I use the lower section with the rubber snubber, and normally I rest it against my stomach.

This is where a monkeyfist comes into play.

I understand what it is, but how would that have helped me? As bad as I am at throwing a throwbag, it is even worse with a MF.

Probably something I haven't considered, that is what make AS so great, mileniums of experiance ripe for the picking.

My basketball coach would say, "The more you practice, the luckier you get." I'll never forget that.

I have a small pouch that I keep 50' of throwline in. I used to have it on my saddle permanently, but got rid of it because I'd be tempted to use it a lot, and it took A LONG time to stuff it back into the little pouch!

But yes, a throwline, and monkeys fist are invaluable tools.

The nice thing about using a steel biner is it gives you some extra weight to throw your line up with without tying a MF of using a throw weight. I can hit about 25 feet from the ground with just the biner. In the tree, I can get about 15, depending on what's in the way and my body position.

And I've never seen an aluminum biner rated at 65Kn!

Just food for thought.

With a pole that long, I'm not sure you'd ever need to climb again!

:D

Seriously though, I don't know if you'd have any control moving around a 30 foot pole. I've only used a few poles longer than 15'. They were wobbly as heck. I can't imagine doubling it!

Any one here used a pole that long?

Once, to snare a kitty out of a 25 feet or so dead maple. IT WASN'T EASY THOUGH!

The only thing I've used super long sectional polsaws for is to twitch twigs out of birch and like trees where you just have to touch the deadwood to make it fall out.

Once you get past 12-15 feet the flex looses so much of the energy that you cnanot cut efficiently.

I once watched a guy fight 20 min to get a stub he forgot, even though his rope was till in th tree. I asked if it would not be easier to climb back up, but he said he was tired:rolleyes:

saws

ive only had polesaw ina tree for a day and we were poing rook nests out of the top, ive had a 'saw on a stick' (sthil telescopic chainsaw) up a few times, awkward as hell but means i can find a comfy spot and sit and poke at deadwood at the tips, being dead lazy really.

wish i had one the other day, was deadwooding and there was a tip about 5 foot long on a dead narrow limb and it was a away out in the middle of nowhere, to cut a long story short, it stayed and i dont care......it drove me mad for a bit trying to get it......grrrrr
