I'm curious to see how a Port-A-Wrap works... Anyone have pics or preferably video of one in action? How the rope wraps around it, etc?

I was thinking about making something similar, but to lower wood thats on a hillside to a road... As apposed to the old redneck method of, 'push it, and see if it stops.' A snatchblock wouldn't have the benefit of friction to control decent of the wood.

Thanks all!

hi i can take pics and try to put on or a vid not real shore how to put on pics but will try. port-a-wraps are easy to use not hard to make.:greenchainsaw:

Also, if you do a search, others have made homemade port-a-wraps.

So the snatchblock allows you to hold tension on the Port-A-Wrap? Interesting... I had a little something different in mind--lemme see if I can sketch it out real quick.

porta wrap is a awsome way to save your ropes, ive had mine for 8 yrs. And now i welded a home made one to my buckettruck bumper, works even better than the one i bought from sherrill, ROCK ON.

IF bull rope comes off block and goes 1/4 turn or so around tree to port-a-wrap located say, right beneath climber in picture, THEN wood does not POUND the bull rope when it goes over. Not trying to be a smart donkey, just know the value of bull rope and tryin to help. . .

Or you could just chunk it down into the wide open landing zone and save yourself a lot of work. Sorry, I WAS being a smart donkey.

Just went on a little spending spree at Sherrill today, picked up a large porty & 5-9' adjustable Whoopie! and a few other goodies!:greenchainsaw:

I just got the 5 to 12' whoopei in the mail today! God, what a big beautiful piece of spliced rope that is! Didnt realize what I was in for with all that tail dangling around. :p

Yep, wasn't sure to go with the 5-9'er or 5-12'er so I got the 1 I got! But definetely didn't want to go any smaller then that! I plan on using it for 2 trees on Monday!:greenchainsaw:

Nice set of pics there Mike.
I wish I didn't have stupid help these days. I'd like to get a port-a-rap but I can't trust my help to get it right. With the rap around the tree I can keep an eye on'em.

Thanks.

I guess I've been fortunate with help. I've never had the problems that I hear of from so many others.
