I purchased a portable winch to skid logs off a log deck to make into firewood. First attempt today resulted in my pulling my chosen anchor stump out of the ground. I found another stump to use but I don’t think it will last long as there is already some movement when I use it. Hopefully tomorrow I can get my pickup on site and use it as an anchor.
Good news is this winch has plenty of power.

I built a 10 HP 600' winch about 30 some years ago works just fine was considering making it fully remote controlled. A problem with it is it is kinda heavy and clumsy. Now my plans are centered around a different approach with a very light weight set up that is more portable. Was thinking a 5 HP motor with an all aluminum chassis and drum. When ready would have 100' 4 or 4.5 mm cable in the range of 2500 LB force and weigh at 100 LBS or less. Is yours electric or gas and what do you plan on using it for. Are you going to skid logs right up to your truck then cut and split on site? Thanks

Gas powered with a Honda motor. Plan is to get them to the road to cut and split.
