Poulan 2000 Refurb Questions

For a few years I have had a Poulan 2000 chainsaw given to me by my uncle that I stopped using as it became harder and less reliable to start and the oiler stopped working.

Being it’s colder now I finally grabbed it out of the shed and tore it down to see what was going on with it. Found out the oiler line had hardened and disintegrated, the pickup element (unsure of actual term for it) filter material had turned to jelly and the pot on was scored. I figured this would be a good place to start and ask a couple of questions before moving any further.

1. Will I even be able to find the parts needed to replace these items and what are they exactly called? I have a couple pictures below.





2. Where is a good place to start sourcing them?

I know the saw isn’t of the highest quality but figured it would be a fun little project to knock out should I be able to get what I need.

Google the IPL & that will help. The one from www.jackssmallengines.com cross references a lot of the NLA parts to husky parts you will have better luck finding.
You will probably find it's due seals &/or bearings. The oil pump works on case pressure through the one way valve in that bolt with the mesh end. They are hard to find too but can be rebuilt with a bit of care & a suitable duckbill valve (commonly used in some fuel caps).
Fuel lines & filter will almost certainly need doing too.

Poulan 530069142 oiler check valve. There is a discussion here on AS that I recall. Pics & methods to rebuild duckbill inside valve screw.
Look at the green OEM Poulan Chainsaw Duckbills. PN #530026119.

The plastic oiler housing has a donut shape cavity. Original a type of foam (?). I just replaced with universal HVAC air filter mesh folded & wrapped into that cavity. I principally serves to stop & trap junk/wood chips. About any media that flows oil but keeps that tiny orifice from plugging.

The trick is sourcing a proper size oil line. Can be a challenge to route & pull thru bar mount wall. Must be snung fit as only friction holds it at bar mount. After hose installed, I cut razor hose flush to bar mount, then cut a birds mount at oil channel for supply opening. Just so some hose protrudes out & helps hold it position. Worked so far.

If you don't own. Go buy $6.50 hemostat pliers from Harbor Freight. Is a must to manipulate hose inside the tank.

Where do I find the IPL?

Now that I look at the cylinder again, maybe I was seeing oil streaks, because I remember it being worse looking when I first opened it. Pics attached. Haven’t totally pulled cylinder yet because I wasn’t sure if it really needed it so kinda hard to show.

If I remember correctly I accidentally pushed the oiling hose through the opening next to the bar mount because it was brittle. I thought it was clogged hence the reason I put a pick inside it. Is the mesh filter on the oil pick up necessary? For instance, everything seemed to work before I pushed the hose through, so could I technically run it without the filter if I replaced the hose? I RARELY use a chainsaw, was more so just trying to get it running again reliably.

That mesh stuffed in there might be a good idea. Everything looks clean and seems to function. For the heck of it I might clean everything up and I have some Tygon I believe is the correct diameter from the apoulan 2900 my uncle gave me not too long ago that needed new fuel line a carb clean and a new in tank fuel pick up. Might be the easiest route for the use I’d have for this saw.

Todd Loosli made those 69142 oiler replacements from brass, try to PM him. They work very well.

Cylinder doesn't look too bad from what can be seen.
Just make a filter out of some appropriate foam or mesh. Last one I did I used a fairly course foam I had lying around, cut it to size & punched out the centre with an appropriate sized shell case.
