Hi all,

This is my first post on here. I got a Poulan 2055 (2002 model I believe) from my girlfriend's dad for free. It wouldn't run hardly at all and the fuel lines were rotted, so I also put in all new fuel lines and a fuel filter. I got it to fire up, but it wouldn't run without being mostly choked, so I tweaked the carb until I got it to purr nicely. It idled fine and revved fine. I adjusted both the upper and lower adjustments. I used it for about two hours total, and then while using it on a super cold day during our ice storm, it died on me. I attempted to pull start it and it fired back up and made a knocking sound, which was really high pitched and tinny sounding. I shut it off and tried starting it again and the pull starter was frozen solid. I took the pull starter asssembly off and used pliers to turn the motor over by hand. Sure enough, the crankshaft was frozen, so I forced it over and now I can turn the engine over with the pull starter, but it is extremely hard in one spot. I haven't tried to start it b/c I know something is wrong.

Does anyone know if it's the crankshaft assembly that needs to be replaced or is there something else in this engine that could be messed up? I'm good with motors, so if I can come across parts for cheap enough, I'd love to fix it. I know the saw isn't the highest quality, but I very seldomly would need to use one, so not having to buy a new one would be ideal.

Sorry for the long post, but any information would be appreciated!!

it is now trash

from what you described you seized the saw. throw it away it aint worth fixin.
lack of oil kills saws:biggrinbounce2:

I had the correct mixture, so I'm thinking the carb was set too lean and while running on the super cold day, it probably leaned the mixture out too much.

I dunno what its even worth, but if someone offered me a hundered bucks Id sell it. Maybe Im nuts, but If I cant get that out of it I'll keep it for a loaner saw and/or a saw to try mods out on.

Scottr, I watched a PP 305 go UNSOLD that looked new and said ran good on ebay at $75.

Kevin did the 305 have a clamshell bottom? How did it stack up to a 500?

No, David the 305 was a real saw, bolt on cylinder, mine was made in 1988. Stock it ran great, if it wasnt for the open port design I would have kept it. I think it would have out cut my 500 with both running .325, big time. I wish now I would have tried the 305 with some 3/8, it was a good hard runner running 13.5k out of wood.

Kevin , thanks for the information .

Hey guys, I dont want anyone to think Im trying to screw anyone on this saw. I really didnt know what it was worth anyway, and it would make a nice loaner saw for my brother in law. He still thinks chainsaws are made to dig trenches in dirt. Another reason Im hesitant to sell it is because I havent used it to cut anything yet, and I would look like an idiot if I sold it and it blew up the first time you used it, as it is a very used saw. Good shape for the wear, but used nevertheless. If Im asking too much, I apologize. on another note I discovered last night the bar sprocket rivets are loose, and I believe the bar is pretty well used up.

I don't think you were being dishonest or tried to screw anyone , you answered all the questions honestly . Here's a IPL for your 3000 , http://www.odref.com/poulan/pdf/poulan/gas-saws/3000.pdf
