What are the differences between the regular 306 and the A model. Does the "A" mean automatic as in the oiler is automatic? I have read that the 306 was auto oiler and the A was auto and manual is this true? Seams like the A for Auto would make sense and the A model would be an update to the 306.

Is the black button on the back of the grip ( same place as a hammer on a revolver) for the oiler? Is this only found on manual models or is it like a safety for the throttle like on newer saws?

So were some saws manual only and some auto only oilers? I read something about auto with manual backup is this how some or all 306A's were? If manual only how often must the oil button be pushed? Constantly in a rythym or every few seconds, or just by the feel of the cut? Can saws be converted from manual to auto if a parts auto saw was found?

All 306A saws had both automatic and manual oiler. The automatic oiler would provide enough oil for normal cutting and the override would only have to be used for real tough cutting jobs or when boring.

If I could only carry (or should I say lug) one and had my choice, it would probably be the G3SG/1

I had a chance at a real, new G3A3 for $500 bucks back in '83 but thought it was too high.  What a putz, huh?

Where would a person find some Poulan lime green paint to re-paint and/or restore an old saw like this?

Hey Mike are all 306SA models auto with manual overide oilers like the 306A?
