Long time Poulan owner...new to the forum.
I have an older saw ( late 70's early 80's ) sold as a Craftsman Pro. It has been a great saw.
Are the studs that secure the bar replaceable? In the parts manual there is no reference to a part #

The part number you need is Poulan 530030039. Copy and paste this to your browser and several should come up. That is a good ole saw, and I hope this gets you fixed up. ;)

Thanks cowroy

I took another look in my manual and I do see a part # for the stud.:msp_sneaky: Didn't realize it was inside the oil tank. I called my local Sears parts store and they tell me the stud part # I gave them changes up to a stud replacement kit ( probably the # you gave me but didn't know what was included. Not many pictures for 530030039. Does that kit replace 1 or 2 studs?

stud kit

I recently got a kit $11.24. For some unknown reason I got 2 studs but the kit is actually for one. The studs are milled flat on the sides on the threaded end of the replacement stud and a hole is drilled for a saftey wire to guide and pull the stud in without splitting the cases. comes with a nut. washers and a piece of saftey wire and instruction with pix.

The stud has a square head and needs to be correctly aligned. on a good stud... the machined flat and square head are parallel. They threw in a incorrectly machined stud as a spare in the sealed bag. I guess to just get rid of them. Since I had opened the cases I could easily use the bad one since correct orientation was not in question while observing the part being installed. It's much tougher if not impossible to see in an assembled case...on the front stud.

Glad to hear you keeping that old 3700 going. Head up to the Poulan stickie where a lot of old geezers hang out and tell lies about Poulans. You will be made welcome.:msp_biggrin:

Sears tell me it'll be in on Tues. If it's only 1, I'll order another and do them both.
This is the first saw I ever owned and it has treated me well. Other than the odd spark plug, a few chains and a bar it just keeps on going. A little heavy but it's got some grunt.

I'll take a stroll up to the Poulan sticky and check it out. Can't be all lies :D

Thanks for the help guys.
