Hey everyone, just got some piston rings in from lil red barn website for my poulan 4000. Could anyone help to advise if any measures/things I need to account for before replacing them? Do I need to file fit them to the cylinder? or are they pretty standard where I can just take out old and slap in the new ones and ready to go? This is my first time re ringing a piston so any and all advise is appreciated! Thank yall!

Generally you want to measure the ring end gap and make sure it's to whatever the spec is. I don't have the spec, but I'm sure it's available online somewhere.

I’d check them, LRB is known to sell junk. I’d also move your thread to the Poulan sticky section, there’s a lot of P4000 gurus over there.

Bore is nominal 1.935”, so first check the rings’ end gaps in your cylinder using a 1/16” drill bit & feeler gauges, then report back.

Should be about a 0.010” gap for new rings & the rings should be 0.023-.024” thin.

That drill bit mimics the little keeper pin installed into your piston’s ring lands.

I just put these in my 4000. They are nearly identical to the originals i pulled out. A hare closer gap. Seem to be good finish.
