I have a little muffler nodded 42cc P3314 that I like a fair amount. It's what I grab for limbing and bucking when under 12" diameter. It's what I put miles on to save my better saws. I like the fewer teeth to sharpen. Is it possible to improve upon this toy saw? Would adding a little more squish help.?

In my experience, the most potential is in the chain. A brand name full chisel chain without anti-kickback rakers and frequent maintenance will give a big improvement over OEM.

The original piston has only one ring, you can replace it with a piston with two rings for a little better compression and a little more friction...

Best chains I found for the little poulans using 3/8LP chain is to run 63PS or 63PS3 . Full chisel 3/8LP

Crap they come with stock is almost worthless.
I agree! It does technically cut. So almost is the best word for it. I have had both Carlton from Bailey's on mine or Oregon semi chisel. At the time I put this on it (years ago) I didn't know Stihl made a picco full chisel. I just ordered a loop of China clone full chisel for $10. Going to give that a shot. I use full chisel on all my real saws. Glad to know it exists in 3/8LP.

Wow. That sounds like a good idea. What would I need to do to find a piston with 2 rings? I know there are better brands with the same diameter (stihl, husq, aftermarket for those two). Would it be a Husqvarna that would be the best source to look for such a piston?

The Electrolux saws of the era (Poulan, Partner, McCulloch, etc.) shared a parts number with a Jonsered saw (I forgot which one), which had two rings. I looked for that number on online shops and compared photos. Many piston offerings on AliExpress these days (usually for Partner 350) seem to come with two rings. Add Caber rings for a better fit. It's a lot of work for a very questionable power gain, but these saws came with lousy compression from the factory and this seems to be a way to improve it.

Lousy, Yes they did. Something like 75psi. I figured maybe also the large amount of squish. I guess there comes a point where, the saw is what it is. It does work pretty well for a toy saw. I bought a refurbished unit for $60 and used it maybe 30 hours before it quit running as well and I sold it for $50 since I had 2 of them. It wasn't bad with nice chain and a muffler mod.
