I have been looking at this saw or an Echo cs-590. Thanks for the review. I am hesitant to pull the trigger on the Poulan. I would be spending $100 more on the Echo though. Decisions, decisions.

If you can get the 590 for only 300, *get it*. It's way more saw, plus mag case pro construction.

Around here the 590 is 400 or better and I got the 5020 for under 200 . I know the 590 is a better saw and cant anybody say different but its cost twice as much

Oops I made an error I have seen it at my dealer for $385.

Still a better deal in my opinion. I'm guessing that Echo is a 55 or 59 cc semi pro grade saw. Another good saw for the money in this class is the Jonsered 2250. On sale at Tractor Supply for $319.

Poulan is owned by Husky. 2050 and Husky 450 are completely different saws.
I am sure u r right about that but the 5020 I am sure has husky part first thing I seen on mine was muffler has husqvrana on front of it

Where did 2050 come from? I saw some refurbished 5020s for $128 before I bought the Makita. Now that's a great price.
My friend got his Craftsman as a refurb for like $99. It probably had 1 tank ran through it. Same as the 5020.

Damn that's a fantastic price! Did he get it from a store or online? I've seen bars that cost more than that lol.

Isn't the 5020 just a rebadged Husqvarna? Thought I read somewhere there's the "H" logo stamped all over it and it was comparable to a 450 or something like that.
The 5020 is a completely different design from any Husqvarna saw. Since Poulan is Husqvarna brand all the parts have Husky logos and use the part numbering scheme, but the design is unique. The Poulans use a different cylinder design, especially in regard to the transfer ports and the way the clamshell cap is separate from the chassis.

I like the PP5020 and want to get one. The 70DL chain will swap with my McCulloch 3420 (PM605) and Chinese G621 clone. Also, you can readily but 70DL chain in most big box stores that sell saw supplies, but you often can't get 72DL.

Ya, that is more in line with what I have seen for new prices. Cheapest decent sized "pro" saw you can get. Many threads on those in the chainsaw forum. Like most new saws, need muffler mods, limiter caps pulled and richened up just a scosh, but besides that, good value with something that can run up to a 24.

My bad, thought I read somewhere on this site about the 5020 being similar to a 450/455. I would have thought it would be cheaper to clone the Husqvarna saws vice making a whole new 5020 design.

I have to admit, it's kind of cool how you use less than ideal wood stoves and saws. Really shows you don't have to spend a lot to cut/burn wood.

The 5020's muffler is an open can. How're ya gonna mod that, and why? No limiter-caps, but you do need Husqvarna carb tool- got mine before the "lock". As arrived, carb adjustment was fine for sea-level. A 24" bar would be a real stretch on one, even with full-skip. 16" or 20" bars work fine, if you let it self-feed in woods like hickory with the 20-incher. IOW, it's got to be kept SHARP. Got that?

I had switched to talking about the 590 echo, guess I wasn't clear enough.
