Poulan Super 33 Sand Cast

Hows it going everyone. I've just joined this site and am loving the wealth of knowledge on here. I recently got a poulan super 33 at a yard sale that supposedly hasn't run in 5 years. I'd venture to say it's been longer. I'm very interested in getting it running again. I've located a carb kit and the spark plug. I'm having trouble finding fuel and oil lines. I also would like to know any helpful suggestions that you have to offer. I love to learn and any information helps as there is very little information on this saw.

The oil line was hard as a rock. It was obvious whoever had the saw before me pulled the trigger pretty hard for the throttle. It ended up bending the little wire that connects the trigger and the carburetor. The hardened line kept the throttle on the carb from moving. At least that's what I think happened.

Welcome to the site! Have you tried acresinternet ? They have information on all brands of chainsaws ,old and new. Specs and the years they were made and such. Cool looking saw! What part of Ga are you located? I’m located SW corner close to Al and Fl . Be Safe!

Welcome--I like running,repairing and cutting wood with the old saws. I just go to a local small engine repair shop and get about 3 feet of all they stock. about 5 different sizes for saws,weed eaters etc. I am here in Albany Georgia-- Where are you from--I like the old bow saws and was working on a sachs dolmar 112 carb and lines today.Go to Chainsaw collectors corner fo some more info. P ull the muffler and see how the piston looks before you go very far with it-have fun!!!!!! David

I checked out the piston and appears clean with no scoring. Lots of carbon build up in exhaust port, on piston head, and spark plug. But that's to be expected I assume from the fuel ratio these run. I am having a hard time pulling the carb off. Seems like the fuel inlet underneath the carburetor is providing some clearance issues. I'll post a picture shortly. And I'm around the Monroe area.

I think if you gently serarate the spacer plate and push it back towards cylinder carb will clear studs--Note the grand prize you scored-original Poulan spark plug!!!!!!!!!!!! Take care of it. All years I have only found 1 and thats with collecting a lot of saws--Keep us posted.

From the main screen click on the "Chainsaw Stickies" tab to take you to that section and search for the Poulan thread, it is normally near the top. The thread has been renamed to honor Nik Tesla, a long time contributor and Poulan enthusiast who passed away a few years ago.

Thanks for the tip. I was very hesitant to separate the plate because of how many gaskets I already have to replace I'm very happy about having an original spark plug although I never tested for spark before tear down. Exhaust was full of dirt dobbers and didn't want to pull over the saw and get any in the cylinder. Fingers crossed it fires

Gentle scraping with a screwdriver, some gentle wire brushing, and a light scothbrite scrub is my modus operandi, but others may suggest a non marring scraper.

What do you guys use for exhaust gaskets? I can't find the replacement gasket so I will need to make one. What material or kit do you recommend. It's the gasket that goes between the exhaust and head.

You can get a sheet of exhaust gasket material at parts store and cut one out.May be a little thicker than what is on your saw but it should work.(Disclaimer-I have never done one on a chainsaw but have on other small engines with success) Hope this helps. Be Safe.

I have all parts on order and some have already come in. Saw is still disassembled unfortunately. Haven't had time between work and college but it should be getting put back together soon. Till then here are some picture of the saw now that it has been cleaned up a little more.

I do have an issue with original chain. It is a .404 with a .063 pitch. Looking to purchase a longer bar and chain for this saw but not sure where to get it. I will keep original bar and chain but the original chain is seized. It's practically brand new so I'd like to salvage it. Any ideas on how to clean and free up a chain?
