This is the stuff they sell at Home Depot, and costs the same as Oregon (with shipping when ordered over Internet). I used it on my old Mac and it worked well, but is Oregon considered higher quality?

Is it that Chinese chain with 3 intertwining circles on the tie straps?? Is so, then Oregon is much better. It is Charlton chain if on each drive link a letter and a number are stamped on it. Charlton (who makes the Woodsman Pro chain for Bailey's) is in my opinion better than Oregon. Oregon chain is softer than Charlton and Charlton chain is softer than Stihl chain. Softer steel is easier to sharpen but dulls a bit quicker.

Thanks! Yep, its got three intertwining ovals. Over the years I've used probably 10-15 of these chains, and they only took 3 or 4 sharpenings before becoming useless. And I thought that was normal. Guess I should have researched this sooner. :monkey:

wysiwyg , did you also file the depth gauges (rakers) to the proper setting ?

Nope! Never even crossed my mind. After reading your post, I looked through the archives and googled the subject and found out how and why its done. Thanks!
