Pre-rigging tree parts

How many of you currently use the technique shown on the bottom of page 21 in Sherrills Winter catalog? It looks like a good idea for those folks who have a problem limb on a tree, but hate to have it taken out. It lets you dramatically reduce the danger, makes you feel better and leaves the owner happy.

What are your thoughts?
