I am looking into another saw, either a ms 440 ms441 cm and ms441r

What is the main diff between the ms441 cm and ms441r models... I think oiler, and wrap right? want to make sure the ms441r is the newer model with the smart stuff in it.
Main question is
I can get a ms441r local for about 820 with 20 bar, but they have to order itin, can get a better deal on the 441 in stock... maybe get a extra chain and stuff with it too for a cash deal.

Does this seem fair?

How much more over the ms441 does the ms441r command?

I have a ms460 rescue saw that I bought awhile back mainly for the wrap handle and big pull handle, have fallen in love with the wrap over standard bars ( cut alot in winter with snow etc on ground) so am thinking intstead of adding to a reg ms441 just ordering the r model to begin with.

Thanks

First off the cost of a 440 (if you can find one) is close to a 460 or $850 - $900
It is not offered in full wrap.

If you really want a full wrap then it's either the 441R or 441C-M R.
Both will come with the high output oiler..which you would have to buy separate for a 440.
You can check prices in your area from...Professional Chain Saws - Heavy Duty Chain Saws | STIHL
Click each model and type in your Zip and pick "show all local dealers". Pick one...
Hope this helps...

Thanks, fully aware the ms 440 isnt available in a wrap, just been thinking of that over a ms441. Yes I checked, retail, just wondering actual street prices , maybe a better dealer in the NY area etc. Thanks

The 440 is available with the full wrap in western Washington. When I checked this week, the local prices for powerheads and wrap handles were 440-$777, 460-$847, and 660-$937.

Typically prices do not vary much within a general area.
Usually it's just the free extra stuff a dealer will include like a extra chain..etc.
You can check prices just by changing the Zip code...or calling of course.

I suggest buying local if you can get decent price and have a quality dealer
that does good repairs...places part orders several times a week and treats you right.

Buying from a slightly cheaper dealer and then taking it to the local dealer for parts / repair
can sometimes turn out to to be "bad JUJU"...if you get my drift..!! :msp_sad:

The 440 doesn't have an HO oiler. The dealers near me don't stock any wrap handled saws and have never ordered any. If you want the cm it can be bought with the wrap handle as that's how some guys have got them.

The 440 oiler won't change out with anything else. Its the odd ball in their lineup. The 441 and 460 share the same oiler.

Much thanks for the info...and getting my mind back on track again...LOL..!!
Now I remember correctly...as you said...the "HO swap" is for the 441 and NOT the 440..!!

Here is a video just showing some of the features of the 441 M-Tronics R or in other words a wrap handled, better oiler, bigger dogs etc 441 with the computer controlled fuel and ignition system.

Here are some photos of it:

You get the dual dawgs and chain roller, bigger clutch cover, bigger chip flap and better oil and Stainless Steel Muffler.

Note you get the better HD2 Filter and the previous air filter nut is now a screw.

Best part about the saw, a blanked off carb adjustment center.

Heavier duty AV springs for the longer bars comes with the Wrapped Models.

Muffler hole size is the same, which is small.

I think the wrapped models of either the M-Tronics or the Regular 441 are about $40 more dollars, this is a bargain.

Hope it helps,

Sam

I have always bought a wrap version of saw you get alot of nice extras.

Thank you all for the pics and advice. I originally had hopes of buying a re released ms 440.

I have since changed my mind. I am pretty much set on th enewer ms441 cm wrap version as it has a few features I like better than the non wrap version. I
I was mainly concerned over the extra cost of the r over a non r saw, but I guess at about 40 more I will wiat the etra 5-7 days for the shop to rorder one in instead of buying the shelf non r nd upgrading.

Now my only decision is 18 or 20 inch bar for the best balance, portability as it will be a firewood saw/ and where to get the light bars as my stihl dealer only has e /es bars..
Thanks again. Matthew
