Here in St. Louis I would hit them up for $350 - $400 just to grind the stump and exposed roots out. If they wanted the entire area ground into the hole and leveled off I would go up to $650 - $700. I don't have a bobcat but I do have 3 guys with shovels and more energy than a room full of 5 year olds on a coca cola binge. It's not a large area so it would be nowhere near the $2,500 price tag. Shoot...I could rent a dingo, do the whole job myself and still make good money at $700.
I must admit that I do the same thing when bidding some jobs. We recently had a guy with a HUGE dead/split storm damaged cottonwood with 3 conjoined trunks (nearly 8 foot across one direction and 6 foot the other) hanging over his garage, his power lines, his fence, his neighbor's fence, his neighbor's power lines and so much more...he said he had a bid of $10,000 and he felt that was way too high....I told him he was right...it was too much to pay. So I gave him a quote of $9,800 so he would PLEASE call someone else!!!!
But on an uproot stump??? REALLY???? Nah...couldn't be. Most of the dirt on this one would be ground right back into the hole - making this a relatively easy job!!!
