Here is the full size one. .6mb
Still don't see why it needs any work.

The tree is beautiful and looks structurally sound to me. It's unnecessary removals like this that really bother me. I'm gonna get a chain and lock and drive down there with long metal spikes to save thut lil pour ol treee.

I think I'll wing it here....

I'd bid (provided I could look at it before I sign the contract :) )

Takedown and Brush removal : $575
Log Hauling: $250 (I sub this out)
Stump Grinding: $225 (this is subbed too)

TOTAL $1050

That is off the hip. Would probably end up charging less after the job was completed.

Then again it is just me and a groundie with little other overhead.

Well I bid $1700 to cut it down and grind the stump, and another 200 to clean it up for a total of $1900.

I figure I will bring in a crane, and have the job done before lunch.

I was looking at it, and getting those limbs off the roof/chimney would be finiky without a good TIP, and getting the broken leader out of the other tree is just more time and risk of damaging it more.

I firgure 4 hours (the min) on a 75 ton ($740), but it will just be 4 real picks I think so they might cut me a deal. Give away some of the wood as fire wood, haul the brush and big stuff. Have my father grind the stump that weekend and collect the check.

RFwood: I run a crew of 2 full time groundies and a part timer. My over head is minimal as i dont have any large physical equipment (my dad takes care of the grinders, in return i turn the wrenches on them).

Carl, I would never have guessed that you would add a crane. I have no quarrel with your total price-beter'n mine! - but I don't understand the $200 cleanup.-That is roughly half the work-the less skilled work ,granted, but still............?

She looks like a notch and drop to me, or just use a bucket (if you don't want to climb it).
Almost $2000 is quite a bit higher than what we'd charge, that looks like and easy half a day job, $800.
Personally I don't like to use a crane for an easy job like this, especially if it costs half the job.

Mike mass has the right idea. 1700 is way to much from the looks of it. That tree should be 1300 canadian and about 1100 american that is a half a day's work. If you can get acsess to it than my price seems close. in my book. A tree like that would take us about 45 min to get down. no crane

Get it down onto the house maybe, yeah. That sounds like a wild-aspirations lowball guess, or the Molson's is really flowin' today, or you are the best of all time.

On that tree, it's a shame no one did a reduction prune before so it wouldn't have split. Showing potential customers photos like that can help sell maintenance work. It's one of those "You can pay me now or you can pay me later" type things.

Wow, only $200 to clean up that mess? I used to price almost as much to clean up as it was to cut & leave. From here hard to tell if I would use a crane, seems like a lot of open area to cut and drop. Bucket would always be easier on something like that with all that drop zone. Stump price around $225 this area. Center probably rotten so just a ring and some roots to grind anyway. Hope you get your price looks like a nice job to work. Plenty of drop zone and access.

Carl,

Why such a large crane? Can you drive near the tree? If so, a 17 ton boom like my sub would be more than adequate for the job. Looks like 1.5 hours of his time. $225 crane expense, if you're lucky enough to find someone as cheap (and good) as Mike. The rest is gravy. Up here, it is easy to give away firewood, so no expense there.

Did you mean $200 to clean up stump grindings? $200 is certainly low for brush cleanup!

Still think a GRCS and truck pull might suffice, but no way can we tell that from pictures.

Since my last post I went home had lunch and went and took down a silver that was a touch bigger and whad a fence and was more over the house. And another slightly smaller one that had the high tention hydro runnig through the tree and a shed five feet away from the base. And no crane. 1 hour per tree. I bet ENYone MY life that thinks i'm full of it.

A saying from the 60's: Speed Kills! :p

Then again, maybe it's jealousy. I'm too old to rush.

I agree. I could showpicks of where it was? The wood and brush stayed where it landed. But there was a fair bit of climbing and roping but my roping is usually is staight to the ground no messing around. When there in the clear i let em fly. Hold em tight till they swing around from the house to the slightly open side and let em fly. My father bombs chunks down like a pro.

Check out the "Let's get this party started" thread.

Lots of cool pics there, feel free to add!

Welcome to the site, BTW.

Thhere is a pic of a white ash on the tree id thread that we flopped in about 1 hour. the tree was to large for to men to get there arms around. $800 just to lay it down. No cuts besides a few my dad putpart way in some BIG limbs so the sucker would colapse on impact and not roll. But that was a good price really.
