Hi

I graduated with MS in Forest Resources last year from Umass Amherst. I defended my master's thesis that was a research about the forest industry trends on the web. The full text is available at the university online repository:

http://scholarworks.umass.edu/theses/11/

As a part of this project I built a web system called timberia.org that, as I thought, would help to esteblish collaboration between small forest-related businesses in the North America.

Currently I am undertaking the follow up research and I would like to know how the web could help the forest industry, particulary in the US to work efficiently and at low cost for forest product marketing.

I would appreciate any thought on this topic from the industry professionals. Especially, I would like to hear something from loggers and private consulting foresters.

Many thanks!

So far as the links section on your web site, note that links on web sites frequently change. So you could add a bunch of links to every topic, then after just one year many of these links would no longer work. Then the site becomes frustrating to use.

What would be better would be to learn to use google.com's advanced search options and provide a link to a google.com search for that subject.

For example for the category Woodworking Machinery. You could use the exact wording below including quotes.

"woodworking equipment" OR "woodworking machinery" cart

This search would find the exact phrases...

"woodworking equipment"
"woodworking machinery"

...but would filter out woodworking in general. The word OR means this phrase OR that phrase is ok. The word cart would find sites which also have a shopping "cart", so this search would find this equipment which is for sale.

So you could do a google search for...

"woodworking equipment" OR "woodworking machinery" cart

Then save the link. Then in Woodworking Machinery have a link called...

Woodworking Equipment For Sale - Google

Then add the hyperlink to the above like this...

Woodworking Equipment For Sale - Google

...Then people could click on the above link and find what they are looking for.

But best of all, the google list of links would *always* be up to date. So no need to worry about constantly trying links to be sure they still work.

Thank you Billy Bob!

Your advise is just great. In google that search is also available in RSS when you are searching in news. I am going to take your advise and make a top news blocks based on the search criteria.

Thanks a lot!
Andrey
