Proline solo tach

I just got a new proline solo tach and I’m wondering how most people use them. Do you just put it near the plug or use the plain wire or do you use the wire with the clamp and clamp the plug wire or cap?

I don't have a proline brand but do have a similar tach. I just hold it over the cover near the plug and it registers. No need for the wire with my Echo or either or the two Stihls...
