looking for a replacment engine for a promark 310 chipper, anyone that has done this please reply. the old one was the kohler k532. I think some of the 25-30hp motors will work but I was looking advice on any modifications needed.
mostly I'm wandering about the clearance for the muffler and belt guard. also can you overpower these chippers, like running a 30-35hp insted of a 25-27hp?

promark engine

I've got two small chippers. One is the equivalent of Promark with a Kohler M18. It has the same minimal rear clearance for exhaust. I made my own block hugger elbows and it worked out great. If that engine ever goes away, I'll definitely go for a Kohler Command Pro 25. On my second, it is a hydraulic feed that is slightly smaller in size than Vermeer BC620/625. It has the Command Pro 25 and also has exhaust clearance issues. Don't forget you can offset the pulley slightly on the engine letting the engine move away from the belt guard. The belts are your horse power limiting factor. Shaft, bearings, blades and belts are actually less stressed if you keep the revs up instead of lugging a smaller engine down. Look at your belt guard for excess clearance from belts to guard. Possibly reposition guard away from engine without getting too close to the belts. Just because they built it the way they did doesn't mean they did it right. Many times manufacturers do what is cheaper not better.
Good luck and let the chips fly

Kohler does make mufflers for tight clearance applications like yours. I atached some pictures so you can see how they mount.

Picture of a oil filter side mounted CH25 muffler.

Here is one mounted (The only picture i could find was for a starter side one).

Or there is this one that is for the pepper pot style mufflers.

Any kohler dealer should be able to get them.

new motor updated

thanks for your replies and suggestions.
I went with the Kohler command pro 27HP, w/ heavy duty air cleaner and the side mount exhaust.
Anyone looking to re-power this is an option everything worked out well.
I had to make a new mounting base plate, $15 in metal and some quick welding and we were chipping again!
see pics.

Good to see you got it going. And I see you used the sidemount muffler.
Did it clear everything ok or did you have to space the clutch out for it to fit.

promark 210 conversion to v-4 flat head 30hp

:newbie: new to promark 210.Engine stuck so, converting x 30hpv-4 wisc flathead. Original drive system uses 3 groove 3vx belts.3-4" engine pulley? cutter head using 8" 3 groove. original18 hp kohler ran @3200-3600 rpm? The v-4 told peaks @ 2400 rpm. Having to buy new sheave/bushing set up,but not sure what size to go with?
Does anyone have info on what a promark 310 pulley drive sizes are?
what rpm can this cutter stand?
Should we consider larger diameter drive sheave for more rpm?
If anypne has any experience w/ this any help would be greatly appreciated!!![email protected] or [email protected]

If it is a VH4D wisconsin it can run at 2800 rpms max no load. So if you set it to that is would be the best rpms for it. for your pulley question if the engine pulley is 4" and disc pulley is 8" than you have a 2 to 1 ratio. So old engine at 3600 rpms should be 1800rpms at the disc. New engine same pulleys 2800 at engine would be 1400 at the disc. To get the disc to turn at around 1800 rpms i think you would need a 6.25" od pulley on it. I think it is around 1.55 to 1 ratio. I am only guessing though you will have to do some calculations to find the correct pulley combos.
