I am considering purchasing a (suburban) property in California with two redwoods, the largest is 4-5' in diameter and eyeballing 120' or more high, it is roughly 17-20' from the side of the house and the canopy overhangs the roof only a very small amount. The second is smaller, only ~2' in diameter and somewhat less tall, but 10' or less from the side of a detached outbuilding built on a slab. They are both beautiful trees and given local restrictions here to stay barring significant disease or damage, not that I'd want to remove them. Due to the extreme market right now I doubt I'll be able to get an arborist in to look at them in person before making a decision.
I have never had to maintain more than a small maple tree before. I'm aware there is risk to the foundation (will look at the crawlspace for signs of roots, slab for cracks). I'm curious how much care they will need to maintain safely, if it will take a specialist given the height, as well as what to expect in terms of clearing needles and any other major ongoing concerns. Also wondering what the worst case might be as far as disease or issues that might take significant cost to take care of.
Thanks for any experience or opinions you can share!
