Apple Tree Pruning

I've always been told that you should prune it where the fruit can grow. Spacing branches appart. Also you can thin it out. By taking close branches and crossing branches. Like seeing the tree with in the tree. You may also take all branches that go up. NOT TOPPING IT. It will give it a weeping look. That's some of the things I've learned about pruning apple trees. It all depends on the manner they will be harvested in Billy. Many production farms want the trees to have a tight scaffolding and a hight that will not excead a good ladder reach. This requires a lopt of hack and slash management.

Also the will leave short stubs after a branch is removed because the sprouts will tend to have a better angle of attatchment. This will allow them to select a good replacment branch to grow for production a few years later.
