I took my 4 y.o. on a shrub pruning job a weeka fter my wife said she wanted to wait til he was at least 12 before going on the job.
He doesn't like the sound of power equipment, so pruning shrubs with hand cutters and putting the cuttings onto a tarp was a good way to start...
He was enthusiastic and a good worker... I've let him watch videos of climbing. felling and rigging so he knows whaty I do for a living... I think that is important...

I took him over to a 45' DBH silver maple removal where the log was on the ground to take some pictures... He wasn't happy... said aomething about needing trees to make the air we breathe...
I took the opportunity to talk about trees and people living together in a suburban environment..
 
my boys 10 and he reckons if it don't make a lot of noise and smells of petrol or deisel fumes it aint fun...thing is when he was 4 he didn't like the noisy stuff either
