Ya some , mainly I want to ask someone who has alot of knowledge / experience with the Solo ect. some specific ? s ...... Been in some 10 below temps this past week with quite a bit of fine snow ..
You might be able to partly mask off the inlet on the starter to increase the working temp of the engine. I don't know if Solo has a flapper similar to what's on a Husky to let in warm air from the cylinder, but they may have something similar? How are you likin that Solo so far? Would it be comparable to a 372XP?

Flappers

Yes the Solo has a winter port , when opened it is like the Stihl Pro saws , But there are vents on the top of the air box cover . Snow gets sucked in ..... I taped them over yesterday so all the air has to come from the cylinder ....... I,m wondering how much to cover up the starter cover .......... I did it on my 460 last winter .. One guy @ Madsen's said not to , but I couldn,t keep the saw running . I taped it half over from the bottom up and the problem was solved ... The heated handle bar saws used to come with that snap in kit that covered up the bottom half ................

Comparison

It out cuts the 372 and the 460 ... It has a bit more stump power and no more weight ..... I mean No kidding , I think it is every bit as good a saw as the Stihl or Husky .....And I,ve both Pre Commercial tree thinned with the 371 and 372s and fell timber with them . and I,ve busheled with 3 different 046 Mag/ 460 Mag Stihls ...... I may still like the 372 better , I don,t like the dogs being bolted to the side cover , I like the outside dog being on the bar studs .... I like the trigger on the 372 . and prefer the air cleaner system on the Huskies ...... I like how snappy the 460s are , they just have alot of pop .........I like how the 372 has more distance between the handle bars and grips , but the Solo is similar .... I like the Solo 681 enough that if it stays dependable (which is why I,m asking about cold wx operation ) I will buy more of them , ..........

I've got 2 Huskies now, but am seriously pondering on getting a 372, or a 385 to replace my 2100. I considered Solo, but just like the feel of a Husky.

My 7900 has a warm air port you can open for cold conditions. Ran mine last winter a couple days air temp around 0 with no problems.

If your replacing a 2100 you need something bigger than a 372 .. The 395 is a wonderful replacement for the 2100/2101s I,ve cut alot of timber with the 2100,ect s Awesome brutes .. 394,to the rescue !!!now 395 .

The 394 is a good saw for what they are. They just cut into the piece at one speed, and when it gets there it doesn't really slow or stop. Just not that super quick power right off the bat, but they continue to pull and don't pinch out on limbs hardly at all either. I cut quite a few logs with a stock one this summer and I was not sure if I would gamble and buy a new one ported or just stick with the 390's. I got another 390 which I love, but I would like to have a 394 hopped up like a raped mule for big wood.

Ace morgan Hot Rod 394s

Some of the guys I cut with ran Hunt's modified 394s & 395s . I got mine from ace's saw shop in Coos Bay ... When I would pull the throttle it would peg a tach @ around 14800 rpm before I could get it pulled all the way , like instantaenously .. Then it would level off @ 13500 .. They had so much torque they would rip chains in half by the 4th time a hungry chain got hung in the face of a hard hemlock . A sprocket would last a few days to a week .. Had to smooth out the grind and not go below 40 K on the depth gauges . But they were smooth as glass ...And that was without an opened up muffler ....... My Ace saws were as strong as the Hunt's , or any other ones on the crew . But mine wern,t as loud ... Made a difference by the end of the day ......The noise and lack of vibration .... 2 1/2 gal of gas a day min. and sometimes close to 3 ... I busheled with @ least 5 394s that I can remember i owned . All bought new ......I need to get a pair of 395s just to have them ..:) I,ve never run a 385 or 390 yet .. How does the 390 compare with a 288

Actually, the 2100 is more saw than what I need. Nice saw , but kinda heavy to cut with all day. I wouldn't mind a 395, a 385, or at the very least, a 372.
