What's the rope called you use when climbing that you flip up the tree?

Hooks to each side of the harness/saddle?

Need to know the name to get a shorter one, been tiing nots in mine, but some trees I need smaller.

Id call it a lanyard. some call them fliplines. I think the main difference is in the core. Flippies have a wire core and are stiffer. Lanyards tend to be wireless (either 16 or 3-strand).

The only self contained adjustable ones are the 3-strand styles toward the top.

The 16's I have all need some sort of adjustable device to make them adjust in length (micrograb, etc.).

The 3rd one from the top is rather popular and easily adjusts w/ one hand.

If you want a steel core, I can make one up to do the same thing.

How to adjust? the 3 strands use 2 hands (pita). the mechanical ones are one handed. the snap end of the lanyard attaches on one side and the adjuster is on the other. Pull the end through the adjuster toward your backside and WALLA! It is shorter. Push the top of the adjuster while leaning against the rope or pulling the snap end and WALLA!, it is longer.

I have a 6' one just like this one....

That's what I was looking for on all the web sites, but if ya don't know what it's called you will have fun finding it....

So I looked n looked, found one on your site right as you answered the post.

lanyards

There are a lot of different kinds out there, what do you want to do with it or what do you want it to do for you? Beranek Lanyard, Braided Lanyard or Wire-Core Lanyard? You can use a Beranek with a Prussic loop or Blakes hitch to adjust length or Wire-Core with a Petzl rope grab. If you go with a Wire-Core stay clear of powerlines with it. Look through the online stuff the sponsors of this site have to offer in their online catalogs. If you are using a lanyard that doesn't have a clip/loop on both ends don't forget to tie a figure eight knot in the free end so you don't get to the end of your rope and fall off. Always tie a knot in the free end to back you up. It's real easy to get busy in a tree and forget, without a backup knot your loop, hitch or rope grab will slide right off the end. With no backup knot. freefall if you're not tie in twice.

i place a chord straight to D to adjust. Present lanyard without knots could be so fitted i would think; but then only use one end; in contrast to Mike's pictured Double Ended Lanyard.

Tom has a design with 2 usable ends, 2 adjusters; called DEDA; Double Ended, Double Adjsuting (?) Lanyard.

Tying knots is just a PITA.

Liking a steel core has nothing to do with you being a wimp; it's simply better for ascending because it has the spine necessary to make it easier to "flip" it over stubs, etc... hence, if it's steel cored or starched, it's a flipline. It also adds a margin of safety when blocking down a spar, since it's alot harder for a chainsaw to cut through it.

If you ever get into pruning without gaffs, you'll want a lanyard; much easier to use as a second, shorter line to position yourself around the tree, especially for limbwalking. A flipline will have a tendency to slide around; usually undesirable for this purpose.

Yo whats the rateing on that dog snap. May seem insignificant but it that close line for a cord breaks Its the snap that will catch you.

You know I'm just busting your balls don't take it personally I just beat everyone to it.

Whats the white cord you have there looks like some sort of dynemea or spectra? Stay tuned for my upcomeing photo of a pulley mod to replace your dog snap. I just thought of it one the way home today. But now I have to run back to work anb grab my butterfly.
