Questions about installing a wood stove

I am virtually positive there is no requirement for 18" clearance underneath the stove in VA
I live in VA and have a wood stove

Not clearance, 18" perimeter from edge of stove

Now you are saying perimeter. He has already told you It will have at least 18" of clearance on all sides.
Make up your mind what bad advice you are trying to give.
