Randomly changing chain tension

I finally got the saw back today. It was having problems oiling the chain, which I pointed out, and part of the chain oiling system had to be replaced.

And according to the shop, the poor oiling also explains the randomly changing chain tension. They claim it has to do with how will it rides the sprocket, the bar nose gear, and more. They also replaced the chain, saying it had been damaged from the lack of oil. The bar checked out okay.

I've done nothing more than fire it up to make sure it came out of the shop ready to run. If the problem returns, I'll post another follow-up. If not, assume they fixed it.

Thanks for all the replies. And if anyone can better explain why the lack of oil would cause the randomly changing tension, I'd like to hear it.

Metal galling at rivet and inside drive link from running dry. You might loosen it up with lots of oil but like torn cartilage in a joint its hard to make it smooth again.
