Some new saw guidance request..

Unfortunate situation, guess your choices are between a rock and a hard place then. You say you cannot fly in a used chainsaw?

previously fueled equipment becomes dangerous goods... our flights are on a twin otter and it has to go as cabin cargo - it can happen, but big $$$$.... if was that easy, i would simply fly my own saws up but it has to wait to sea lift in June....

you are right, partially - money like $1k vs $1.5k vs $2k for a NIB saw isnt an issue; granted a NIB never tested saw is also a risk of never being right from factory.... I am not gonna pay to for dangerous goods shipping on a used saw since that is upwards of $1k by the time the dealer preps and disassembles is so it can fly.... then i gotta rebuild it here and possibly get parts...

I dont like the lack of adjustability and incorporation of m-tronic, intelli carb etc for my situation, but what will happen is that wood is gonna be on the ground in 4wks and i gonna sled it out for processing....

What has to happen is wood down and moved to town - i have responsibility to make sure the elders are warm.... I appreciate all options and messaging all contacts you guys giving me...

Fits discussion of fuel quality & spare parts.

The suggested, only use "orange" filter media, Stihl 0000-350-3518 Fuel Filter for Mtronic. (Filter cage marked production number, 0000 358 3401 C)

@huskihl -- Don’t use the old white and black filters in an M Tronic saw. They found that the original filters were allowing too many particles through and it was ruining the fuel solenoid. Use the orange filters.
The White filters are fine in the adjustable carb saws.

I suspect you might be confused on IntelliCarb. Is nothing smart or electronic about it. Just the old fashion adjustable carb. Stihl manner of adding customer confusion with a special branding name.

Mtronic: yes, has an electric fuel solenoid (electronics). So includes a unique Flywheel & Ignition Coil to generate power for the Mtronic solenoid operation.

IntelliCarb: is dumb system no electronics. Just simply employes a pressure feedback circuit between the Air Filter interior to Metering Diaphragm exterior side. Is only an Air Snorkel air passage. Allows fuel metering to compensate a minor amount if plugged / dirty Air Filter. Permits carb metering diaphragm to measure air filter restriction pressure rather than direct outside ambient air pressure. But, dumb system. Maintenance free.

He just said recently a NIB MS382 $850 delivered conusa. 038M is one of my favorite saws, but heavier and more saw than OP needs.

Maybe combined shipping on 2?

I have asked for a call on this option - not worried about weight like that...

Not at all confused about intelli carb - i just want 3 adjustment screws and intelli carb isnt available on pro level saws in canada, intelli carb only on farm and homeowner grade saws in canada...

No I’m not confused about it. I didn’t say any of your current saws were mtronic. I do remember posting (or at least reading) that in here but I can’t find it in your thread to see its context. But either way, if you end up with an Mtronic saw, use the proper OEM fuel filter

My regrets if offended anyone. Meant only to give OP (DJ) clarification regarding IntelliCarb & filters info from the experts. Although see now all understood. My mistake.

Posts just threw me off that OP wants 3-screw carb but also prefers to buy Pro series (Stihl). So, states that does not want a farm/ranch model with IntelliCarb. Okay, so doesn't want a 3-screw farm/ranch model, and can't buy 3-screw Pro model in Canada/NL region. Tough situation.

▪︎I see 036's command $500-up in mid-west USA, not OP import option. Even ms311 owners asking $450 - $550.
▪︎OP stated Ms271 available locally for $700. Thus, guessing an ms261cm would push $1000 (if available).
▪︎Truly painful to hear OP needs to spend $2000 for ms362cm MT + some miscellaneous consumable parts. Ouch.

I figure that fuel quality & environment satisfactory to the mule sled (Yamaha VK) should be equally adequate for any chainsaw models. Just carry an extra Stihl -3518 orange fuel filter.

Maybe the ms362cm MT is the lesser of evils since will compensate tune on it's own. I can't yet see premium to go ms400 MT unless desire weight reduction. Ms362cm should suffice as 20" wearing 3/8" .050. Actually more than required on 12"-18 poles. Beneficial capacity if ripping larger poles in half to load/transport.

My question here to others, anything horrible about an ms271 for 1/2 cost of ms362cm. Imagine it prefers 18" wearing .325" .050 (23RS / Pro NK).

Done all the damage I can here. Tough choice $1000 (50cc) or $2000 (59cc) for NIB model.

no worries, a couple comments:
1) 362 - $1100, 391 - $900 NIB and shipping extra. 271 - $690, 162 - $399 and these are here. this is saw prices only, no consumables included. I have a package price of ~$1900 including tax but no shipping when adding accessories for both 362 and 170s
2) accessories in town are limited - spark plugs, a couple chains for 162/170. else all gotta be shipped
3) i want 3/8 chain - this means 362 can share cutting attachments with my 048 when it arrives on sealift
4) i also getting a pro level saw - spend a few extra now, better value later
5) i am abit suspect of stihl canada specs - they list 250/260/271 as same weight as 362 with 291/391 200-400gr heavier. 362 has best wt/power ratio

If i had realized what was going to happen this winter i would have taken advantage of sealift - especially for my log splitter which the 362 will have to do some 2x duty this winter..
