I have read some talk about a rec. climb before or after the TCIA event.
Has anything been decided about this?

There is usually one or two going on after the stuff winds down. It will probably be Saturday afternoon.

A few of us are talking about doing a daytrip to DC on Sunday if your up for it. I'll be staying flying out Monday morning myself.

Looks like me and a co-worker will be making it to Baltimore. If its the two of us, we will team up and drive up from TX. If its just me, then I'll fly. Either way, I'll bring my gear and hope to hook up.

I've met a few folks from the board. Hope to meet many more.

I'm the person that probably started that thread. I've talked to the City Forester for Baltimore, who had some questions related to liability issues. I referred him to someone on this board who'd worked out these issues for other cities before. I'll drop him a note this week and make sure that they're still making progress.

The City Forester offered us the site where the ISA 2000 jamboree was held, Druid Hill park. This is about 3 miles up the road from the Convention Center, but easy to find, with good public transportation access. I'm also exploring sites within walking distance of the Convention Center. I don't think there's any within a couple of blocks, but there is Federal Hill, maybe 5-6 blocks away, that's a beautiful location on a pretty good size hill overlooking the Inner Harbor.

Let me know if you have any suggestions or questions.

Druid hill Park???

My girlfriend lives in Baltimore now. I will check out Druid Hill Park next time I go there. Kevin, where is that located. I think I remember seeing signs for it when I come down I-83.

Map to Druid Hill park in Baltimore

Hey, Nick, sorry I missed you when you came through Baltimore.

Druid Hill Park is right off I-83, about 3 miles north of the center of the city. This is where the Baltimore Zoo is located. (One of my most surreal memories is cross-country skiing in total silence during one of Baltimore's rare significant snowfalls, right past the giraffes.) Here's a MapQuest link: http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.ad...7+RNZjRLu3iLjXQlIVahICScQvsig95d3SYXUka3/MvA= or this one if it doesn't work: http://tinyurl.com/mr4n . Mapquest also offers aerial photos of this location.

If you have a chance, Nick, when you're next in Baltimore, drop me a note and we can drive around and check out some possibilities for the rec tree climb.

Climbing in Baltimore

Kevinz-
I have posted to this board in the past regarding the climb during the convention. I am a purely recreational climber. I have climbed a few of the trees in Druid Hill Park. None with permission, because who are you going to ask? Besides, I have been properly trained and have all the required equipment and knowledge to do it safely. Anyway, I digress. I'm always on the lookout for fellow climbers, so any time you want to meet up I can show you the trees that I have climbed, and some of the trees I would like to climb. You mentioned the Baltimore Zoo. I spend quite a bit of time up there doing construction administration for my job, and there is a monster (and I mean monster) Tulip Poplar right at the fork in the road at the Mansion House loop road. I've been in it a few times, but it's tough using only DRT. I recently began SRT climbing and I think that's the way to go for that tree as well as numerous others in Druid Hill Park. Anyway, the city forester is right...Druid Hill Park would be the place to climb during the convention. Drop me a line and let me know if you want to get together to scout and/or climb.
