While using a smaller saw to get you going and see if you like milling is acceptable. I agree with 80cc being a good milling saw, even though I have used my 440(about 65cc) for smaller logs with the 25" bar I still run an auxiliary oiler, as it does seem to make a difference it definitely helps keep the chain and bar more cooler which adds up to less wear and stretching of the chain, as well as a bunch of other benefits, like less bogging and smoother cuts. More power is always better and that's when my 3120 comes in handy plus I got a great deal on it $300 with a 42" bar and chain, and it runs perfect, has for last couple years. A friend was moving and he didn't want to take them with him. So deals are to be had.
