ignition coil gap

I have a small husky that was not sparking. By mistake I had left the coil loose and then got spark. WTF so I set the coil right on the magnets and viola, good spark. Did you ever have this happen?

Strange, but yup the closer the two are, the higher the voltage output.

Was the FW to mag gap set at 0.010” before you loosened up the two coil bolts?

It was about .018 match book cover.

Speed you pull it through will also make difference .. the faster, the better.

I have had that problem with Lawnboy Dura force motors which have week coils from the get go. Typically I set with business card, but for LB I use a feeler gauge.

Yup, the monthly coils were much better!

I did a experiment 018 gap was about as big you can get and still have spark. Back then I was having trouble with coils. After a lot of research I found that spark plugs was the problem. For me a brand new coil will be destroyed in 20 minutes using a non resister spark plug.

With a good main bearing, .010-.015" works.
