Hi all
First post!! whoo hoo!!

First off, what a great site with a tremendous amount of helpful information! As a new homeowner I inherited a VC Resolute Acclaim (1988) and while I have been a life-long outdoorsman, I consider myself a newbie with indoor wood burning stoves. (My dad heats year round in Quebec and would fit in on this site!)
I have been trying to build up the 2-3 cords I expect to burn this winter (5 months, supplemental as I work a lot and can't be home to load) along with next years wood, however I am having trouble finding a reliable source of wood. Most guys deliver short cords, claim it's seasoned when it's obviously not, and seem to be less than worthy of the next 20 years of service. No receipts, cash only types are fine by me as long as you're honest and knowledgable. I'm on my 3rd guy...
As much as I'd love to split my own, I don't own a pickup and have no way of hauling. I did buy a 4 lb Ace Hardware splitter that I can't wait to start using though and need to pick up a good solid chainsaw as well.

So anyone know of a reliable source in South Eastern MA or RI? I'm not looking for free wood, just quality of service and product. I'm interested in supporting small local businessmen and women as well.

Thanks!

Any advice is welcome too, as far as where to look for deals, when to buy, how to capitalize on blowdowns etc! I have a feeling I'll be up all night reading as well

Thanks!
I'm located on the Rumford/Seekonk MA line (east).

Wish I could help out, we've still got a few cords of very nice seasoned Ash (cut and split last Feb) and we sell cheap, but that's a little further than we go for delivery. Move to Chepachet and then we could work something out :)

Longevity is your guide

Ask how long they've been selling wood and ask for a reference(s). If you don't get an answer, move on. A lot of guys are out hussling wood right now, find somebody that's been at it a while and your chances of getting what you pay for increase dramatically. Not saying all the newbies are crooks, far from it, they may give you a deal to get some market share, but guys that are in and have been in the business know what's expected.

I've been selling wood since the late seventies and have several regular customers that are always happy to give me a reference on the odd occasion when I get a new inquiry. As 90 % + of my business is regulars or word of mouth it isn't needed often but I offer if they request.

Suggest ordering a load of log length now for next year. Cut and split it yourself and you'll have good seasoned wood for next year.

Take Care

Hi,

I live in Medway, MA, and I have had a hard time finding log length wood. I did have 2 triax loads delivered in the spring, but am not having any luck getting another one for the fall. If anyone knows of a good supplier, please post it.

Thanks
