I have been CSmilling since October of 2011(and mostly a lurker on here), I want to Thank everyone on this site I have gained SOOO much knowledge, if it wasn't for this site I would have lost interest in it due to all the issues I ran into as a beginner, but things work pretty smooth for me after learning from everyone on here... I'm addicted now, Thanks!! This project below was my first project for someone outside of my family and friends. It started as a backyard crane removal of a Red Oak that the client had built a deck around. We asked the client what he had in mind for the stumps and he's reply was to buy a table and remove the legs and place the top on the stumps. So one of my co-workers knowing about my interest in milling said I could make a table top out of the same tree, I threw a very cheap price at him because I had never done anything like this and really wanted to put this notch in my belt.

I had a crotch piece of the tree placed off to the side of our log yard and went at it. It was the thickest log I had milled at the time and some of my cuts were not very good but I picked out the best 2 slabs to work with.

I drew a straight line and cut the edges with a circular saw and attached a couple cross pieces underneath to hold it together.

I used the CSM to level the stumps.

I was nervous about warping and cracking due alomost no drying time but so far so good.

Now that looks absolutely beautiful. For a rustic table it really wont matter if it cracks and warps a little. It'll still look better than a picnic table. Good work, Joe.

Is that you in the tree? Really makes me miss climbing. My last big take down was a crain job. Had a 50 ton come in to take down a giant Silver Maple, over a house and wires, with a huricane coming up the coast. The client was a family friend and it was a rush job. The storm wimped out and we never got any bad weather. I've still got the stump to slab if I want it. Thanks for posting the pics of the take down, made my day, Joe.

Thank You, that's not me repelling from the oak. Along with that removal the client had us Class 2 prune 2 Sugar Maples in his back yard so I was climbing around one of the maples as the removal took place. It gave me great vantage point for the job, I see this stuff everyday and it never ceases to amaze me, I love every minute of it!
