I made a post on the used equipment section for remington roller nose bar tips but was told to try a post in this section also. I'm looking for large 3 1/2" in diameter remington roller nose bar tips, Patent # US2,888964 , 48530 Assy. Or old Mall bar tips-samething. If you know of some, call me or e-mail. 530-894-5826 Thanks Dennis.

Hey, is that you Tommy?

A tree that diameter, never mind the length, would be exceptional out here on the east coast. I`d better get my 6 year old out west before you guys turn `em all into lumber. LOL.

At first thought, I believed it was just another sawed off woodtick, but no, upon further examination of the picture, I realized it was one of the tame apes who roamed "the jungles" from California to Alaska, following the logging camps. They were blood brothers to the railway hoboes. Some say they were hatched out behind stumps when the strong spring sun melted the snows of winter and the stumps steamed in the warm spring sunshine. It was then they appeared and jumped around in the slashings. When the snow got deep again and the wolves howled, they disappeared for the winter.

Thanks Tommy for posting that picture of me in the glory days. Do you guys know what model saw I was using? And since I'm only 5'6" how big is the cut? Used to cut timber like that all the time. That was a bugged Sugar pine salvage tree which you can't cut any more because of the 30" rule on the Lassen Nat. forest. Now those kind of trees go to waste unless its a danger to a road or campground. I have been going to post some pictures of some race saws and logging but had to buy a scanner. Will start posting some soon. Dennis

Roller nose

Tom Snyder, I'm looking for one or more, use them on my big hot saw bars. Will buy or trade for them. Thanks Dennis

Mr. Cahoon...that would appear to be a 920/930 in that picture...I have several of them myself that I use on a regular basis, as well as a hot pair for a double ender...I will check my Remington stock out...

910/920

Dennis,
Good call, it is a 910 or 920 Jonserd can't remember which. Never owned the 930. Good saw expect for the rubber mounts on the back handle, to flimzey. And a little small for that wood. Wait till you see how we loaded that log. Will post a picture or two soon, just to show Gypho how a real Gypho Logger does it.
Dennis

Yeah, its gotta be the 920 then...looks identical to the 930 pretty much...the 910 had a different handle and top cover design if I recall correctly... I will see if I can't dig those tips up today and give you a call...

Hey!!! Just a minute here D.C. if anybody is going to get a roller nose out of D.G. it's going to be me along with about a half mile of 1/2" pitch chain that he has ruined for me.

Don't turn him loose with your 500. Just a piece of advice.

Hey now Rotax....I only ruin the chain I bought anymore....if you are silly enough to put a race chain on when I am using the saw...that is your own fault!! I told you to put on chipper...;)

-Never keep up with the Joneses, drag them down to your level.

roller nose and chain

Rotax- I think you might have guessed on the amount of 1/2" chain....I did a bit of math to figure this out. the PRED spins around 7K, roughly a 10 foot loop, you end up with chain speed of 14k, or 1706 mph! At that kind of speed , Dennis had to have ruined MORE than a half mile. Claim he ruined a full mile, he should feel guilty and get you the half mile you really want! You could always settle for two loops for the PRED and two for the rotax and a case of busch beer. Blame Canada!

When are you going to have a "little" show at your place. Saws, beer, steak, seafood? any combination of those works. Thanks for the heads up on the coating! Bill Jr

Oh boy. Here we go again with the weekend rocket scientists. Since DB hasn't jumped all over this one by now I guess I'll have to set things straight.

First of all. What's up with the supersonic chain speed? Doh! Get a grip on the feel for reality. The only boom the chain on the Pred makes is when the chain blows up. Here's the answer.

Engine RPM = 7000
Belt Overdrive = 200% (2X)
Drive Sproket = 9 Pin
Chain Drive Link Spacing = 1.5 inches (3/4" Pitch Chain X 2)
Coversion Constant = 12 X 5280 / 60 = 1056

Engine RPM X Overdrive Ratio X Drive Sproket Pins X Drive Link Spacing / Conversion Constant = Chain Speed in MPH

For the Pred this becomes.

7000 X 2 X 9 X 1.5 / 1056 = 179 MPH

Comparing this number to a regular saw running 12000 RPM with a 3/8" Pitch chain at crank RPM with a 7 pin sprocket yields.

12000 X 1 X 7 X .75 / 1056 = 60 MPH

That's the way it is...and why wouldn't it be.

I will have it be known that I never ruined a chain on the Pred,(Rotax put a guard on for me..lol..) which is 3/4 pitch...only on the Rotax...and I couldn't even begin to tell you the chain speed....my dad, Carl, was the one that helped Robert destroy the Pred chain...hehehe

Nice job on the calculations, Robert! Your spelling is even improving. You only missed one letter in your first use of the word "CoNversion".

Yes Dennis, the "Greffard Guards" certainly make the Predator much more user friendly.

Rotex,
No worries about 3/4" chain, but that 1/2" is like trying to find hens teeth. My son's been known to cut trenchs also, but two saws and two chains each are the way to go now. I'd rather drink beer at a show than file chains all weekend. That's why we tied one year at Morton. I would'nt file his chain after his cut on Sunday. Besides that, he might of got lucky!! Also, what's your chain speed on your rotex, and what size sprocket are you using? I heard some guys are experimenting with 14 tooth 1/2". It should pull a 13, my 250 's will. Rolin use to run a 22 tooth 3/8's and it cut. Dennis
