There's no replacement for displacement came from the mucle car era when MOPAR was king of the street, and ford was trying to keep up with their wanna be hot rod mustystangs. The only good vehicle in my point of veiw that ford ever came out with was the ones that they teamed up with Carol Shelby and designed them. I am a diehard MOPAR guy, and I spit in the face of any Ford guy, but chevy's are ok as far as engines can be concerned.

We have a 2003 Dodge with the older style body, packs a 6 cylinder Cummins High Output Diesel in it, fully turboed, and we may get a compound dual turbo kit for it. Then it will have 500+HP at the wheels, that means that there may be like 750-800HP in the engine. Then more performance stuff - Banks Diesel Performance Co. makes a specially designed exhaust kit for it, and now your definatly at 800 HP or above.

The only way ford is claiming that they have more low end tourque with their newer trucks is with their gearing, yeah sure it may out pull a dodge with a HEMI in it, but it cant go over 60 mph with them gears. Our Ram can pull that much at 85mph. It will keep up with the big rigs on the highways and interstates. Bar none.

Saw with the most torque eh? MOst definatly an 090G, but with does weigh a lot, and they dont make them anymore. So the question should be: What current production saw has the most tourque? Or maybe: Which current production saw has the most horsepower?

Good question.

you dont know what your talking about. my ford is awsome, and i will put it to any tow test you want lets go bring it on.

I smell a race.

I rode in a buddy's 6.0 with power chip and exhaust. Claimed to have 400hp and 800 ft lbs. Maybe so but it didn't feel like it. No low end and had to rev the pee out of it for any response. I wrenched on an 01 H.O. cummins for my old man. Haven't had it dynoed but we think it's around 400 hp. It would flat out smoke my buddy's 6.0 ford simply because the dodge has a longer, flatter torque curve.
Sorry Husky372. You don't want any part of a modified Cummins. Hook up to a heavy trailer and it will look even worse.

Best torque saw? Not sure, but the dolmar 9010 has a longer stroke than the 066 or the 395. Don't know about the solo 694.
John

PS. My money's on the cummins.

Load a stock 04 Cummins and a stock 04 Ford diesel to the max and the Cummins will chew the Ford up and spit it out. This doesnt even take into account that the Cummins motors is superior in every way. Now, modify them and the Cummins really eats the Ford and does it for less money.

As far as problemd with the new Ford diesels go. I was getting out of the auto industry when ford was releasing the new powerstroke. There where so many problems with that motor that some had to be sent through the line several times before they passed inspection. The older powerstroke wasnt perfect, but it was much more trouble free than this new one has been.. About the only problem with the Cummins engine over the years is the crappy stock fuel transfer pump setup. Fix that problem by relocating the pump or buying a aftermarket pump kit and they are bulletproof.

i guaranty you this thing is a tourgue monster and it has no performance mods
Then there is now way you have 365 hp. More like 325hp @ 3300rpm and 560 ft lbs at 2000rpm. The dodge is packing 325hp@ 2900 and 600 ftlbs at 1600rpm. Notice the dodge makes it hp at a much lower rpm? Tell me who has the torque?
Argue all you want the cummins will trounce a flowerchoke. BTW chainsaw.:D

My friend must have gotten a dog also, I have a 04 Cummins H/O, and he has a new Ford 6L, loaded or unloaded the only thing he see's are my taillights. I'm not saying Ford doesn't build a nice truck, I had a 94 with a 460 and she could run and pull well, but I'm glad I went with Dodge on this one (3/4 quad L/B 6 speed). As far as torque on a modern production chainsaw I have no idea but would be interesting to see who has the most. :D

back to the original post. 'no replacement for displacement'. what exactly do you think a long stroke is? it is more displacement! the statement that there is no replacement for displacement is true. sure you can get alot of power out of a smaller motor, but its life span and reliability go away as power goes up. in the desert race, the ford small blocks are usually 442ci, and power is usually between 670, and 740 depending on valve train and compression ratio. in the short course racing back in WI and MI, we ran a 458ci small block. our 442 was a $30,000 motor and produced 775hp. our 458ci small block was also about $30,000, but it produced about 850hp. both motors would only run about 2 hours before we sent them back to the motor builder, sometimes they were fine, and sometimes not. mind you these are DYNO tested hp ratings, not yeah me and billy bob think my chevy 350 has 450hp because we put an intake and carb on it.

Get Rotax Rob to make us up a Cummins Chainsaw - All Time Tourque Master there, but the weight is the problem. Just leave the Cummins in the trucks lol.

Its basically the unmatched truth, Cummins makes some of the best truck engines. I cant wait till my dad puts a Cat engine is the pickup.

When in JC I had a diesel shop intructor that squeezed a 3208 into a mid eighties chevy dually. They had to take it back out though. Something about the front coil springs bottoming out when they lowered the engine hoist. CAT's are stout.

The 6.0 powersmoke is a shorter stoked engine. It's a diesel that revs like a gas motor. The pin-heads at ford realized that 90% of new truck buyers don't really use the truck anyway therefore they don't need a diesel. But diesel is fashionable now days. It's all the rage. So the solution? We'll short stroke a diesel and have the familiar driveability of a V8 gas motor. Pisspoor compromise. It just simply won't make the low end torque needed to get moving and maintain speed while loaded down and pulling a steep grade.

What about longevity? If you have to buzz the 6.0 to get any power, it won't live as long.

A guy could build a cummins predator saw. You just wouldn't be able to pick it up.:(

Could make a Cummins saw, but you would have to have 6 guys holding it by the stretched frame that your gonna need to distribute the weight. Then just let the engine fall through the wood, let the weight of the saw do its job.

Torque is twist. That is why it is measured in Ft. Lbs. That is why a torque wrench is also calibrated in Ft. Lbs. If you are twisting a bolt and having trouble getting enough torque on it you will have an easier time if you get a longer wrench or extension. That is why a longer stroke engine will have more torque than a short stroke if everything is equal. Trouble is things are not equal in this world. If you want the chain saw with the longest stroke you should pick the Sachs 166. It has a 56mm bore and 48mm stroke. The 090 has a 66mm bore and 40mm stroke. ( Ken and I are trying to figure how to fit a 090 piston and cylinder on a 166). The reason the 090G ( 58X40 ) has a lot of torque is because it is geared for half speed. If you gear the 166 for that it would have a lot of power. BTW some 2100 Homelites were geared 3:1 and I think there were others also. Mike

ben your right it is 325hp i was just quessing not paying attention to the actual specs i quess my bad. you can have your low rpm motors i'll take my ford. cummins does make a good motor though.

i quess ford is the number one seller becuase dodge and chevy are sooo good:rolleyes:

To put a 090 jug on a 166 is not hard , it has been done lots out here but the crank will not take it, put the 090 on a 3120 stroked bottom end, you will need to mod the piston alot because it weighs so much but it does fly when finished and you have 157 cc if you leave the bore on the 090 jug stock, in Quebec alot ofguys are putting the 3120 jug on the 166

166 Dolmar

Rupe,

Marcel Vincent had a 166 with a 090 cly. on it at the Mio Mi. show a few years back. At that time they were running the 2100 Huskies that he built, Cliff Helsel however won the contest with a 750 Homelite, on the last day Marcel sent his operator out with the Dolmar it was running on the muffler and was far and away the fastest saw there, in fact I think it was one of the fastest saws I have ever seen. The saw did not qualify because it had to run on two of the 3 days. I heard that someone on the east coast bought it and just recently sold it for around $500.00 Sure would have liked to have gotten my hands on it
