You`ve got some great pictures there Tom, keep `em coming. I`m always awed by the size of the trees on the west coast, I hope I can get my son out to see a few before you guys cut them all down for hotsaw races. :D

Oo La LAAA!!!!

Hey Tommy Fales,
Nice Pictures! I'd sure like to see more of that Hot Dennis Cahoon! (Or his good looking wife.) Just Kidding! It was good to see those pictures. Why don't you give me a call and tell me how to post some too, because I'm computer illiterate!!!! We have some good ones of all of all of us at shows, and some of Dennis' logging pictures from Helicopter logging too. I noticed on the one picture of you cutting with your Rotax, Dale was cutting against you. He, Dion, and Kerry are probably on their way back from Germany right now for the Sthil Finals this weekend. That was a great picture of your Dad and Rolin pulling the hand saw. He's got pretty good form, but not as good as mine!!! Or do I just look better bent over? HA HA I have some pictures of your Dad and Andy pulling the hand saw that I'll bring to Grassvalley. Looking forward to seeing you guys. Make sure your chains are sharp.
Love, Annette:angel:

Hey Tommy, great pictures. Dennis Cahoon, here's some real chainsaw nerds, I am the sawed off woodtick on the far right with no hair.
Anyway, I will see you wannabe's in Calif., real soon, in fact, I will hit you with so many flurries, you will think your in a snowstorm.

Camera Shy?

Tom is that chain too bashfull for a closeup? All we can see is sawdust; Hel we can all make that.
This forum is a wonderful medium for sharing information and it is fun to see the parade of personalities. Stay tuned.

What do you call the two-saw falling method in the Andyf15 picture?

090!!

Tom
Steve here... What about the pics of the 090!!!
How did your dad swing a heavy saw like that with a 5 foot bar on a spring board..

I noticed that “theman” has given himself a promotion to “the real man”. I’m really impressed, though not surprised since I knew him even as a small child and he had that Napoleon syndrome even then. He also has had these “visions of grandeur” throughout his life. I know this because I’ve known “the real man” since he was a child because his father, Tom, Rudy and I, the three of us, were best friends for many years. His “name dropping” of well known contestants are obvious, since he seldom posts anything without some mention of at least two of them. Now that we all know that he knows them and is on a first name basis with them, I wish that he and his compadres would get on with the racing chains “secrets”. I’ve been waiting on pins and needles for all this information since I’ve never seen either of their chains. It’s hard to copy anything when you haven’t seen it. So far all I‘ve seen is one fuzzy picture of a chain and a lot of talk about going out to make test cuts and changes and more test cuts, etc. Maybe someday they will finally get a fast chain. That is not what the people on Arboristsite want. They want facts. I overheard at one show last year, a person using one of the gouger’s chains telling another lowly contestant that if he wants to see one of these “super” chains, it would cost him $600. So much for the B.S. that just ask and they will tell you.

I know that when I started my series on racing chains that there would be those who would be offended because that would level the playing field. When Rotax Robert ran his 325 Rotax against other 500ccs that was not a contest. It’s like running my 090 against a 046. Yet the author of this thread struts around and fluffs his feathers. This to me is a hollow victory. Then he wants to dump his other 500 saw on Robert. It can’t be as good as the saw he uses or he wouldn’t get rid of it. Beware Robert and build your own saw. It was mentioned in another thread that real men don’t move away. I moved away to pursue a career in the fire service so I wouldn’t be working in the woods until I was in my seventies.

I was associated with dedicated people in one of the prestigious organizations in the country, which is composed, of real men.

I owe Lisa an explanation of why I thought her name was Ruth. Since she concealed her identity with this childish charade, how was I to know she wasn’t Ruth. I spoke with my son Gary and he explained the situation to me. When Lisa was a senior and Gary was a junior, they sawed and won the Jack and Jill event. The next year, when Gary was a senior and Lisa had graduated, he sawed with Ruth Hals who also was a member of the cross-country team. They trained at my place and won the event. It is obvious that Lisa was not a cross-country runner.

As far as Lisa stating that I don’t have respect for women. I have been married to the same woman for 42 years. I have two daughters and four granddaughters and love and respect each of them.

How many times is your name on the prestigious perpetual trophy naming the best “All Around Logger”, in Fort Bragg, each year starting in 1963? I won it in 1963 and moved away and was not again eligible until I moved back. Then I won it four years in a row: 1979, ‘80, ‘81 and ’82, then I retired. Then Gary Richards went on to win it more times than anyone else and was the last one to win it. During his final win, Tommy threw the best he had against Gary Richards trying to beat him. I saw Tommy Sr. and Gina walk by with their heads hanging down, I also have movies. The only time a Fales won it is when I wasn’t there. Gary Richards has now donated it to the logging museum and it has become a part of the history of Fort Bragg. Take the time to visit the museum and you will be able to follow my career as a competitor and logger since 1955 because there are a lot of pictures.

I would like to address the author of this thread but I don’t want to get into any bashing as they have done, but I do want to point out some obvious facts. Robert lost by one-hundredth of a second supposedly in Morton. There are no timers using hand held stopwatches who can time that accurately. So it could have gone either way. Secondly, due to my mistake the chain was short a few drive links. Consequently adding these extra drive links also resulted in making the chain one tooth short. Had that one tooth been in place and cutting with the revolutions it makes through the cut, it certainly would have made up one-hundredth of a second. I believe it would have been a bigger margin in Robert’s favor. I take the responsibility for this mistake and thank Mr. Cahoon for his help to allow Robert to at least make the cut.

Also I wish Mr. Cahoon would not have joined this conspiracy to bash Art Martin and that is what this is. If the chains were that close to being equal, only the people using Ken Dunn’s saws would win, as he is the best at least Ken doesn’t hide his secrets. Two other top saw builders, Dennis G and Dan make great saws from what I have heard.

Hopefully, most of the people on the Arboristsite can see that all of a sudden, out of the blue, all of these people didn’t coincidentally come out individually, hiding their identities and using bogus addresses, and started bashing Art Martin. This had be a planned scheme.

I haven’t competed since 1982 and just would like to share my experiences, in fact I was asked to do this. It wasn’t my idea in the first place. Now that we all know that Cahoon is in cahoots with Tommy Fales, Jr. I wish they would get to the subject of the thread and show all these secrets. I don’t need all this bashing since I’m running for the governor of California.

I want to reference the paragraph below from the Race Chain site, Page 6 posted 9-8-2003.

Hello mike it nice here someone on here that does not want to bash me LOL hey tell you what if you give me a call i will talk with you on the phone. i can tell you what has worked for me with my chains. if you give me your email i will send you back my Number. Tom here is a pic of me at albany oregon iam the one next to mel lentz and the other man next to me is Denis Cahoon. next to him is Rollin eslinger . we all ran my chains and took the top 4 places

Why can’t Tommy write an article on the site so everyone can see what has worked for him? Why just one person? Everyone is interested in learning new ways to make racing chains.

Also Mr. Cahoon, if my chains are operating as in the ‘60s, how come an unknown mountain man (Jon Rupley) blew you and Dennis Harvey away two days in a row in Placerville several years ago when racing chains were still allowed? Jon was using my 090 and my racing chain. Could you imagine how fast my chains would be if I was operating by today's standards?

Finally, Mr. Cahoon, I just don’t understand how you can do this character assassination of me. You don’t know me. You have never been to my house, nor I to yours. I’ve never seen your chains, workshop, etc. nor have I seen Tommy’s. What do you hope to gain by this character assassination? That is really puzzling to me.

HI Tom
Its always good to get new people on this forum, welcome aboard.
Art was kind enough to go into great detail and spent hours teaching us how to make a competitive race chain.
Would you kindly do the same and help us out.
Thanks
Dan

I spent about a month last winter applying the principles of filing race chain that Art posted on Arboristsite. I started at the level of being a very mediocre occasional saw user. With no others work to compare to except pictures on AS, I was able to reduce cutting times from 5+ second with a factory chain to 2+ seconds. This with the same saw and same wood. There is much to learn in the way of matching a chain to an individual saw and wood conditions to get a winning combination. That comes from experience and is where I am sadly lacking. You can bet Art has lots of this kind of experience behind him!

It would be nice to have someone impartial to send your chain to to have it evaluated and timed on a level playing field. It is vey difficult to separate all the individual components such as operator skill, chainsaw tuning, wood conditions and size etc., to know how fast the filing really is. Talk is cheap.

I am in no way a saw racer and am only playing with this for self satisfaction, but I do thank Art Martin and Arboristsite for whetting my interest.
