I love you too!
AHHHH! I love all you guys
wait, wait, wait! and then.....
DAMB CHICK FLICKS!!!!!!

John Stewart, I'm sensing inconsistency in your true feelings. You mebbe need to access your deeper emotions. It's OK to hug your groundie. It's OK to cry.

Now go rent Sleepless in Seattle, and be prepared to sob; report back here and tell us how it made you feel.

i would have to say my favorite part of my tree work is qouting against big cos knowing nim going to battle with my little truck altec, and guys who thrive on days that break others, usually the night before the jobs been dismantled in my head too many times and i dont sleep to well, none the less when them trees are gone im on a high

You mean 8 others? :p Hmmm, Aussie Lopa, Timber McPherson, Beranek,

We're not talking about academicians, technicians or rigging specialists, we're talking about the guys who can safely subdue any tree, will take one on in any weather condition, with speed unsurpassed who's not dependent on a lot of support or equipment. A pure climber, spikeless, fearless, always yearning the most technical, difficult tree problem around who LOVES the problem solving aspect of tree work. You would want him on your search and rescue call card.

I listed three hardcores that come to mind, but I don't know if Jerry does sucky weather. Who else?

There's a lot of exceptional climbers out there, but you're asking about the climbers who will go and do where other climbers won't and don't. I think they know who they are.
:) :)

guy hates me saying it but a think this thread really deserves...............

SHOW ME THE MONEY:blob2:

Jim I hope that Elizabeth's not caring is just about treework. Hug your wife and kids.(And try not to think about who Butch is hugging:eek: )

I get my biggest highs from using my mind to engineer a removal in a way that not 1 in 100 would be able to figure out.....

Like the time I put a 100' lightning struck tulip on the ground in one cut, when a $3-400/day freelance climber chickened out, left two ropes in an ajacent tree, and called for the crane... I never left the ground, and had the tree down in two hours....

I used to play 9 ball and would love to beat guys that had better skills by out-thinking them....

Or the time I thought up and used the spider leg removal technique to keep from messing up the perrenials... or dropped a hollow 125' tulip, threading the needle through a downed section of fence, when the other guy wanted to take out an adjacent ash to reach the tulip with a crane....

I also like saving trees by talking the customer out of taking a perfectly good tree down... Everytime I drive by i know that tree wouldn't be standing unless someone had spoken for it!

She cares about what I do , just doesn't want to hear it. To us, every tree job is a unique experience, which is one of our rewards. To Elizabeth hearing about one tree job is like the last one she heard about, so I spare her.

She likes going to the Tree Care Expo, which is a huge reward for me, but just not this year.:(

Murph, that right there is a huge reward, having the exceptional skill to problem solve the climb /care/ takedown of the tree while on the ground. Little correct decisions can save you hours, make you hundreds more, and save doing any damage. You d'man.

Im not really sure about cutting big trees to the ground at the moment been (doing gums out of 1939 bushfires) theres is another aussie from sherbroke, vic that leaves massive stumps(40'-60' generally) thru a area where hes based(most of us will know who im talking of)why not leave a reminder of the monster that was there if its not in a critical enviroment,im not doing it anymore if it doesnt have to happen, big totem looks better than grindingsIMO

And we're also talking about the guys (or Guy anyway) who are subdued by the trees they work on, who see and feel the adaptations that trees make to survive and thrive, who marvel at and try to emulate the power in their life force.

"Rewarding... being able to save a tree when everyone else says it's a goner."

What Erik said. that's the real risk-taking, putting your ego on the line by making wild claims that a "goner" is far from gone, then working with the tree's energy to pull it through.

Money? It's for nothing, and the kicks are free.

Removing? Disassembly, destruction. A hard job done well may be satisfying, but what's rewarding about creating a stump?
